About the Job

Buchanan YMCA is seeking a STEAM and Enrichment Specialist for the afterschol programs at New Traditions Elementary School - 2049 Grove St, San Francisco, 94117.

The STEAM/Enrichment Specialist position is responsible for creating, supervising, and leading one-hour enrichment classes for up to 2 times per week in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) activities at their program site. A large part of this position requires attendance at the program training dates facilitated by YSF’s STEAM Academy and engagement in ongoing monthly coaching with a STEAM Coach. In addition to facilitating and leading the site’s STEAM curriculum, this position will support the Site Coordinator in the procurement of and logistics related to the site’s enrichment program. Programming must be intentional, follow YMCA curriculum guidelines, and be based in Youth Development Principles.

STEAM/Enrichment Specialists will be responsible for maintaining attendance, identifying STEAM students during the YMCA Core Survey cycle, participating in pre/post assessments as a STEAM Specialist, and co-hosting a STEAM event that invites families and communities at their after-school program site.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 18 years or older
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, 48 units of college credit, or have successfully passed the SFUSD Instructional Aid exam
  • Must have at least one year experience working with youthin learning environments
  • Must be highly motivated to provide quality after school opportunities to youth
  • Must have at least one year experience facilitating lessons and managing classrooms
  • Must have knowledge or expertise in youth development and particularly in the STEAM field
  • Must be comfortable leading physical activities with youth
  • Must be available for 1.25 hours per day between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday with some morning hours for coaching & development
  • Current YMCA approved CPR and First Aid certification (training available upon hire)
  • Fingerprint background check clearance
  • TB Test clearance

Preferred Skills & Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEAM related field of study
  • Bilingual skills in Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, or other languages strongly preferred
