About the Job

Under the supervision of the Associate Executive Director, the Aquatics Director is responsible for the operations, program development, and leadership of the branch aquatics department.

This includes the support of current & ongoing programming, continued assessment of program impact and opportunity for expansion to maximize pool usage and impact. This position will lead and develop the aquatics department staff including recruiting, hiring, training/certification, supervision, and scheduling. They will uphold the safety of the aquatic environment in general by supervising the aquatics coordinators, swim lesson instructors, lifeguards and swim coaches. Through strong communication and outreach skills, this position will build relationships with local, state and national community organizations to effectively recruit aquatics candidates and participants. They will assist the aquatics coordinators in managing the group lessons, private lessons, and swim team programs. They will lead regular staff trainings and will conduct in-services and trainings for the branch staff. 

Salary range: $69,629 to $81,917 per year

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum 21 years old
  • College degree or equivalent experience
  • 3-5 years working in Aquatics programming
  • 2+ years of supervisory experience
  • Availability includes afternoon, evenings and weekends
  • 2+ years previous experience including supervisory and budget experience
  • Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Current YMCA approved Lifeguard, BLS, First Aid, Emergency Oxygen

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual in Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin
  • YUSA Lifeguard Instructor Certified, Y Swim Lesson Instructor (or equivalent)
