The Monster Dash 5K Fun Run & Walk

The vision of the new Urban 5K fun run  is to establish a sustainable community-focused running event, encouraging athletes of all levels as well as our families and communities to lead healthy lifestyles and further their personal fitness through running. Since 2016, the Urban City Walk has celebrated our presence throughout San Francisco with a 3-mile walk through neighborhoods we serve. In that tradition, this year’s event will be held at San Francisco’s beautiful Lake Merced. The day consists of a Halloween-themed 5K run and walk followed by a family-friendly carnival with food and music. We hope to raise $15,000 through the generous contributions of our sponsors and running community, which will benefit the thousands of youth and families who rely on our numerous community-based programs. Our comprehensive services encompass family support, youth development, mental health, workforce development, and criminal justice programs that arm youth and families with holistic health and well-being.

The goal of our run is to raise funds and raise awareness. We challenge each runner to raise $200 or more by getting friends to register here to run or walk OR donate to support you if they cannot attend. To help you do that, set up your own personal giving page.

Saturday, October 19
Registration opens at 9:00 am
Run starts at 10:00 am
Finish Line Celebration begins at 11:30

Starting Point: The starting point of the race will be the Lake Merced Sunset Parking Lot otherwise known as Sunset Circle (Lake Merced & Sunset Blvd San Francisco, CA 94132). 

Transportation:  Free street parking, but we recommend San Francisco Muni 18 or 29 Bus.

We run rain or shine!



  • Strollers, pets and costumes are welcome! 
  • We are fortunate to have this beautiful lake to run. This comes with great responsibility; it is up to us to make sure we take care of it. Please stay on course, take any trash with you, be respectful of others using the path and be aware of your surroundings. 
  • Our commitment to the environment, no disposable bottled water will be available. Bring your own water bottle, which you may refill at our water stations.

We seek to provide a variety of food offerings and experiences to create an atmosphere where each vendor has the maximum potential for success. There are a limited amount of spaces available at Lake Merced, and we want you to have one of them.

Each vendor will receive a 10x10 promo space in the family fun area to display merchandise and promotional collateral. Placement and distribution of merchandise and materials is encouraged but no on-site sales are allowed. 

Vendor Fee: $200
You’ll also be recognized on all of Urban’s 5K social and printed race material.
