Lifeguard Training

The Chinatown YMCA in San Francisco is offering a full lifeguard certification course with job placement following successful completion of the class. This 30-hour course certifies you as a YMCA lifeguard and provides certification for CPR and First Aid for Professional Rescuer. Participants who successfully complete the course in good standing will be offered employment at the Chinatown YMCA as an hourly paid lifeguard, pending a clean background check. The class requires a physical competency test, so applicants must be proficient in swimming and treading. The class also requires self-study and successful completion of both a written and practical test that is only administered in English, so applicants should be proficient with reading and comprehending the English language.

• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Available on either Saturday or Sunday
• Must pass basic swimming competency test

Swim Instruction

The Chinatown YMCA is looking for passionate, enthusiastic individuals who want to inspire and impact the members of the Community through swimming. We are in search of people to provide swim lesson instruction to a diverse population using national YMCA principles and program models. No training is necessary as we will train you to be successful in the position. 
Basic understanding of the fundamentals of swimming is required.

• Must pass basic swimming competency test

American Safety and Health Institute CPR and Basic First Aid Classes

Basic First Aid is about more than just putting on a Band-Aid. YMCA training is a great way for parents, teachers, coaches, and others to learn valuable lifesaving techniques. This course gives participants the knowledge and skills necessary to prevent, recognize, and provide basic care for injuries and sudden illness until advanced medical personnel arrive and take over.
