Foundations of Zumba, with Deanna Pinkston
August 4-27, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5-6 pm
In this virtual workshop students learn skills they need to feel confident and have fun in public Zumba classes. These include the basic steps used in a variety of dance styles frequently used in Zumba classes as well as the system of non-verbal cuing.
The class will focus on one style of Latin Dance per session, for example Cumbia, Salsa, Reggaeton, where the basic steps will be broken down. Students practice them as a group with each student receiving feedback from the instructor. Optional practice dance and listening assignments are offered to help students learn to identify music and dance styles.
Registration ends on Monday, August 3, 2020.

I am a member of the YMCA Richmond branch and always was a bit intimidated by the classes so this is a great way for me to get used to the exercises so can go when back in person.
The virtual setting offers us a unique opportunity to support foundational learning of specific modalities in the comfort of ones own home. If Zumba has always been something you wanted to try but the in-person setting felt intimidating because everyone looks like they know what they’re doing a virtual training would be ideal for you. The virtual setting will allow you to learn the steps and the joy of the Zumba with your camera on or off. You can than take that knowledge and joy back to a Virtual or in-person class.
