About the Job
Urban Services YMCA is seeking a Safety & Support Leader for James Denman Middle School Beacon - 241 Oneida Ave, San Francisco, CA 94112.
Under the direction of the Community Health Programs Manager and Leadership, the Safety & Support Leader is responsible for monitoring the James Denman Beacon Site including the courtyard, restrooms, building interior, and wellness facility surrounding school grounds to keep students safe and engaged during in and out-of-school time programs. The Safety & Support Leader will assist the Community Health Programs Manager as requested, especially in the areas of behavior management and conflict mediation.
Minimum Qualifications
- 21 years or older
- Committed to providing young people with the highest-quality youth development experience
- Experience working with multi-ethnic and multicultural elementary / middle school youth
- Passion for social justice and knowledge of James Denman community and a desire to make a difference
- Skills in restorative practices and/or de-escalation training
- Strong understanding of the theory and practice of youth development
- Experience teaching specific content area(s)
- Ability to engage with middle school youth and build meaningful relationships with them
- Team player with proven ability to work with people from a variety of different ethnic, socio-economic, educational, religious, sexual, and generational backgrounds
- Proven ability to work with people from a variety of different ethnic, socioeconomic, educational, religious, sexual, and generational backgrounds
- Strong interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills
- CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and YMCA Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date
- Fingerprint background check clearance
- TB test clearance
Preferred Skills & Abilities
- 23 years or older
- Bachelor’s degree
- Bilingual skills in Spanish, Cantonese, or Tagalog
- 3+ years’ experience working with multi-ethnic and multicultural elementary/middle school youth
- Security Guard Registration and/or Restraint Training Certification
