The Peninsula Family YMCA Is Being Reimagined — For You, Your Family, and San Mateo County

Modern spaces. Deeper connection. A community hub built for today.

ReImagine Peninsula is a once-in-a-generation effort to transform the Peninsula Family YMCA into a welcoming hub for whole-person well-being — serving individuals, families, and generations across San Mateo County.

For more than 100 years, the Peninsula Family YMCA has been a place to move, connect, and belong. Now, we’re reimagining what comes next — modern spaces and experiences designed around whole-person well-being, mental wellness, and community connection for every age and stage of life.

More Than a Building

At its heart, the ReImagine Peninsula project is about the future of the Peninsula Family YMCA and the role it plays in strengthening San Mateo County. It’s about bringing together physical health, mental wellness, social connection, and belonging under one roof — redefining what a community hub can be.

This transformation allows the Peninsula Family YMCA to emerge as a true community well-being hub — inclusive, intergenerational, and designed for people of all ages, backgrounds, and life stages.

Here’s how to donate and support the project.

Why It Matters

San Mateo County families need more than a gym—they need a place that supports the whole person. Our community told us what matters most: mental wellness resources, modern family spaces, and places to connect across generations. ReImagine Peninsula is the YMCA’s response, built on what our community asked for and designed to be accessible for all.

WHAT’s TAKING SHAPE

As part of the ReImagine Peninsula project, the Peninsula Family YMCA will introduce thoughtfully designed spaces built around four pillars: whole-person well-being, community and belonging, family support, and an elevated modern experience.

○ Expanded and modernized whole-person wellness areas for physical, mental, and emotional health

○ New community and intergenerational gathering spaces that foster belonging and connection

○ Enhanced welcome experience and improved flow throughout the facility

○ Outdoor wellness and activation spaces

○ Reimagined youth and family areas designed for every age and stage of life

Made Possible Through Community Support

ReImagine Peninsula is made possible by community leaders who see the YMCA as essential infrastructure for San Mateo County — a once-in-a-generation investment in well-being, belonging, and family support.

We are deeply grateful for the catalytic support of the Fredrick W Petri Foundation, whose investment honors a longstanding connection to the Peninsula Family YMCA and a shared belief in creating spaces where people can grow, connect, and thrive.

This transformation is just the beginning — and it grows stronger with every donor, board member, and partner who invests in the future of community well-being in San Mateo County.

You can help support the Peninsula Family YMCA’s community efforts.

Supporters & Partners

In 2024, a $4.2 million gift from the Frederick W.
Petri Foundation put us on the path to transform
the Peninsula Family YMCA into a modern and
welcoming facility. Now, that vision is coming to
life, as planning and design move forward with
community wellbeing as the driving force behind
every decision. The reimagined center will serve as a model for
how spaces can promote connection, belonging,
and holistic health.

Here for You Every Step of the Way

The Peninsula Family YMCA will remain fully open throughout this transformation — every program, class, and service continues as improvements take shape around you.

We’re enhancing the experience you already value by listening to our community, investing in what matters most, and making sure the Y remains a place where everyone feels welcome.
