Mission & Vision
Building strong communities where you can
BE, BELONG, BECOME
Our Mission is to build healthy, sustainable, and equitable communities for all generations.
At the YMCA of Greater San Francisco, we are more than a place. We are a movement deeply rooted in fostering positive social change guided by our communities. Every step we take is informed by the people we serve who call San Francisco, Marin, and San Mateo counties their home, and we work side by side with individuals and families to help them become the very best version of themselves. Whether you’re seeking to improve your health and well-being, support your family, or find community and a sense of belonging, the Y is here for everyone. Together, we build stronger, more resilient communities where all can thrive.
Our Commitment To…
EQUITY AND ANTI-RACISM
The YMCA of Greater San Francisco is dedicated to making progress towards becoming anti-racist at an individual, organizational, and societal level. Through the examination of our organizational culture and systems we aim to remove institutional and systemic barriers that has resulted in oppression and racism within our organization. We strive to be an example where Black, Indigenous; People of Color (BIPOC) and other marginalized communities can experience psychological safety, a feeling of belonging, and inclusivity.
Our Commitment To…
GLOBAL DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION
We are committed to building equity through our diversity, inclusion and global engagement efforts. We work to ensure that everyone, regardless of ability, age, cultural background, ethnicity, faith, gender, gender identity, ideology, income, national origin, race or sexual orientation has the opportunity to reach their fullest potential.
Bringing Community Forward
Today, in a COVID-impacted world, we know our communities face unprecedented challenges: growing disparities in academic achievement, high rates of chronic disease, and increasing challenges to our youth, adult, and elders’ mental health and wellbeing. These challenges, and so many more, are abundant in all three counties the YMCA of Greater San Francisco services. In early 2021, YGSF launched our 2030 Vision process and Strategic Plan. With diverse and comprehensive voices as our anchor, we sought to understand how we can best respond, support, and partner with the communities we aim to serve. The needs, aspirations, and vision of our communities will be our best asset in remaining a responsive, dynamic, and relevant organization in 2030 and for generations to come.
Guided by the generosity of our communities’ insights, our understanding of the many challenges we are collectively facing, and the immediate need for organizations to quickly adapt to our changing world, the YMCA of Greater San Francisco has committed to a strategic plan prioritizing the following five areas of focus:
