In partnership with the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) and Roots to Success, the Bayview YMCA's Environmental Advocates program offers a holistic approach to workforce development by imploring career exposure strategies and internships to mitigate participants' barriers to employment.

About Environmental Advocates

Interested in the environment and building a sustainable community for yourself, your family and your neighbors? Environmental Advocate Program encourages guiding youth into sustainable “green” careers.

This program includes personal counseling on climate change topics and fieldwork around San Francisco. The program offers placements into internships, paid training, and even permanent employment opportunities in green initiative- related fields after completion.

Course includes a student led community engagement activity project. After completing the program, students receive an education stipend to further support education and training.

Environmental Advocates is a fun and interactive way to learn about the basics of environmental advocacy. Learn about the basics of flooding, groundwater, and utilizing clean energy. Give students an opportunity to learn more about their community and incite change.

“I get to learn more about how climate change is affecting the area we live in, and what areas it can cause the most damage in.” - Na'im

Na’im says he is grateful for his time with the Y, especially in this program. He is especially grateful for how Environmental Advocates taught him climate change topics he didn’t know about. Read Naim's full story.
