Strengthening Community Through Food Access and Connection

Everyone should have access to healthy food. Period. As SNAP/CalFresh funding continues to be at-risk, we’re expanding our response to meet rising need.

At the YMCA of Greater San Francisco, we’ve long been part of the community response to hunger. For years, our branches have operated  grocery distribution sites and food pantries that provide healthy food and essential supplies to thousands of neighbors each month.

As these new changes take effect, we are building on that existing foundation — expanding our reach and deepening our partnerships to ensure everyone in our community has what they need to thrive.

How We’re Responding

We are increasing our response across multiple YGSF sites and programs by:
Expanding grocery distribution to serve more households each week.
Increasing pantry inventory in areas where demand is expected to rise.
Helping residents who are current registered City and County of San Francisco and City of South San Francisco SNAP/CalFresh recipients activate their emergency gift cards and assisting all residents navigate available supports. Our Family Resource Centers, Community Resource Center, and Senior Center will also be available to help residents in Marin, San Francisco and San Mateo Counties navigate available supports.
