Gear Up for Adventure

On Saturday, June 21, eleven of our youth and their families from our Bayview YMCA community attended and participated in the Warriors & Waymo community bike event at Chase Center. Youth received a free bike and helmet while meeting Golden State Warriors player, Gui Santos, who shared his love and advocacy for biking in the city during the opening ceremony.

Our Bike Community

Other community organizations and small businesses were also in attendance, giving free goodies and providing information on bike safety and other youth programs and services. Youth also got to enjoy other fun activities such as decorating their bikes and receiving various balloon models like swords and hats. Those who were present:
· San Francisco Bike Coalition
· Larkin Street Youth Services
· Kids Bike Lane
· Trips for Kids Bay Area
· Cycles for Change Oakland
· Arthritis Foundation
· Bike Rodeo Supply

Hit the Ground Pedaling

After our youth received their gear, Kids Bike Lane provided free bike repair and maintenance service while Bike Rodeo Supply had set up an obstacle course for them to test out their new bikes and skills.

Coming Together

“The Waymo team is honored to be a longstanding partner of the Bayview Hunters Point YMCA,” said Rachel Kamen, Public Affairs Manager at Waymo. “We’re deeply committed to making streets safer and more sustainable in the Bay Area and are excited to help local families have greater access to bikes, safety gear and other cycling resources so that more people can weave this amazing form of transportation, fitness and fun into their lives.”

Our ongoing partnerships with Warriors and Waymo continue to have a major impact on our communities. From youth sports to Bayview YMCA’s annual Turkey giveaway and family event – we ensure that youth and their families get the support they need to become their best selves and build healthy, sustainable, and equitable communities for generations to come.
