The YMCA of San Francisco prioritizes the health and safety of our youth and staff. Our youth programs abide by all public health guidelines as set by the city, county, and state. Since March 2020, we have been safely running in-person programming and will continue to put the health and safety of youth and staff at the forefront of all our programs. Detailed COVID restrictions and procedures will be distributed to families in the weeks prior the beginning of camp to ensure the most accurate information is being distributed. Any changes to our COVID policies will be communicated in as timely a manner as possible.

Explore Camps

Our traditional camps are age-specific and offers youth greater challenges with every year. Activities include structured and unstructured games, sports, arts and crafts, team building activities, and songs.

Y Tykes - Specialty Camps

GRADES: Incoming Transitional Kindergarteners-1st

Half and full-day options for Y-Tykes Camp. One field trip a week on Fridays, for full-day campers only.

Our Y-Tyke Camps are specialty camps made just for kindergarteners and 1st graders! This camp offers everything you can think of when it comes to summer camp. We focus on hands-on experiences, arts, media, and challenges that make learning fun. Our weekly themes arts & crafts, camp songs, and organized games allow day campers to really enjoy a unique experience while staying on-site Monday through Thursday, and a Friday field trip (for full-day campers only)!

Once you pop, you just can’t stop! Campers will enter a magical wonderland filled with shiny bubbles and balloons of all shapes and sizes. Campers can get excited about creating and decorating through bubbly fun activities like bubble wands, and bubble balloons – a chance to really get their imaginations poppin’!

OOEY GOOEY SCIENTISTS

Become this summer's messiest scientist! Campers will explore all of the fun with sticky activities such as silly putty, slime, and much more by creating concoctions that are bound to spill over. Get messy with fun and exciting projects. This camp is the perfect introduction to science, and will surely leave an impact.

TINY ARTISTAS

Unleash the creativity to explore and showcase all of our artistic talents. Your camper may be the next fine artist as they explore the colorful and slightly messy work of paints and clay-based projects, just to name a few. JURASSIC JUNGLE

Do you know how dinosaurs say I love you? Rawr is how it’s said, and they are rawr-in with excitement for this week! Campers will immerse themselves in the Jurassic period within the Mesozoic era and learn and create fun crafts about the different dinosaur species that used to roam the earth millions of years ago, through fun, hands-on crafts, and activities.

BUILD & PLAY

Power up your engineering skills while playing with over 100,0000 pieces of LEGOs! It’s time to explore science through building designed projects such as arch bridges, skyscrapers, and motorized cars! Discoverers - Traditional Camps

Traditional Camps

Full-day Traditional Camp for Grades K-1. Field trips are every Tuesday and Thursday.

Our Discoverers camps are designed for youth entering Kindergarten and 1st grades and will introduce campers to a fun day filled with intentional relationship-building activities, arts and crafts, songs & games, and much more! This group will travel on field trips every Tuesday and Thursday visiting landmarks, parks, or museums within the Bay Area. Campers will spend their week playing, making friends, learning, and having lots of fun in small groups of 8-10 campers!

STEAM is everywhere, and there is so much to explore! Steam Camp will be diving deep into some of our campers’ favorite STEAM subjects. As we explore coding, rockets, LEGOS, innovation, and more. Our campers will gain a deeper understanding of some of the most fun discoverable topics out there!

Did you know that coding is about communicating?! And who couldn’t use a little practice to get better at communicating? Campers will use analog and digital ways of communicating clear directions so that a “receiver” (computer) will do exactly what they envisioned. We will use LEGO Spike Essentials kits which will allow campers to program codes on a screen AND see the action off-screen by making LEGOs physically move!

Blast off this summer with YMCA’s STEAM POWERED Camp! Summer is all about “Learning through Play” and our Tinkering & Making camp emphasizes the process of learning with our hands. THINGAMAJIG

It's a Thingamajig! Thingamajig® is a daylong celebration of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) learning, exploration, and healthy competition. Thingamajig Camp will gear up our steam-ers for the annual Thingamajig Invention Convention. Campers will learn through hands-on exhibits, challenges, and experiments, all while using unconventional materials.

Splash Camp

Half and full-day options for Splash Camp.

Swimmers will learn basic water safety and swimming skills by participating in daily swim lessons and organized water and pool games. Camp Leaders are in the water during pool time, with Certified Lifeguards and Swim Teachers.

This camp strives to build youth's confidence in and around water. Campers will be in the water for two 45-minute sessions every day. The morning session is spent getting comfortable being in the water and learning basic swim strokes from Swim Instructors. The afternoon session is a "free swim.” The rest of the day combines active games, crafts, and fun activities. Participants must be 6.5 years or older by 9/01/2023. Swim Test Required.

Sports Camp

Half and full-day options for Sports Camp. One field trip a week for full-day campers only.

Sports Camp is available for so many of our campers looking to help build skills, fitness, and self-esteem. Each week, a special emphasis will be placed on a specific sport that includes skill sessions from 10:00 am-12:00 pm which provide our campers with coaching, practice, and game-like scenarios to test their skills. Our afternoons will be reserved for going the extra mile with scrimmages or even time to cool down with a fun sports-related craft!

Start your summer off the right way and join your Y friends while enjoying a variety of fun recreational sports. Specialty Travel Camp

Full day option with daily field trips to locations all over the Bay Area such as: Great America, Lawrence Hall of Science, or even Magical Bridge Playground.

Do you have what it takes to survive in the great outdoors? Campers will get out in nature to explore basic skills in the great outdoors. Campers discover the finer points of preparing for an outdoor adventure, developing orienteering skills using a map and compass, and learning about plant and animal identification. The Y and partners bridged the growing disconnect between young people and the great outdoors by creating meaningful connections to nature – let's start exploring!

AQUA ADVENTURES

Splash camp doesn't just happen in the pool - this summer we are riding the wave with Travel Camp all over the Bay Area! Each day campers will experience a field trip adventure to aquatic locations, from water parks, aquariums and even splash pads. This camp is the perfect way for campers to stay cool during the hot summer days! Participants must pass a swim test and be 6 years or older by 6/12/23.

THINGAMAJIG

It's a Thingamajig! Thingamajig® is a daylong celebration of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) learning, exploration, and healthy competition. Thingamajig Camp will gear up our steam-ers for the annual Thingamajig Invention Convention. Campers will learn through hands-on exhibits, challenges, and experiments, all while using unconventional materials.

BUILD & PLAY

Power up your engineering skills while playing with over 100,0000 pieces of LEGOs! Apply real-world concepts in physics, engineering, and architecture through building designed projects such as arch bridges, skyscrapers, and motorized cars! Campers will design and build as never before, creating masterpieces with LEGOs and other building materials to showcase an engineering marvel at the end of the camp week.

Splash Camp

Half and full-day options for Splash Camp.

Swimmers will learn basic water safety and swimming skills by participating in daily swim lessons and organized water and pool games. Camp Leaders are in the water during pool time, with Certified Lifeguards and Swim Teachers.

This camp strives to build youth's confidence in and around water. Campers will be in the water for two 45-minute sessions every day. The morning session is spent getting comfortable being in the water and learning basic swim strokes from Swim Instructors. The afternoon session is a "free swim.” The rest of the day combines active games, crafts, and fun activities. Participants must be 6.5 years or older by 9/01/2023. Swim Test Required.

Sports Camp

Half and full-day options for Sports Camp. One field trip a week for full-day campers only.

Sports Camp is available for so many of our campers looking to help build skills, fitness, and self-esteem. Each week, a special emphasis will be placed on a specific sport that includes skill sessions from 10:00 am-12:00 pm which provide our campers with coaching, practice, and game-like scenarios to test their skills. Our afternoons will be reserved for going the extra mile with scrimmages or even time to cool down with a fun sports-related craft!

Start your summer off the right way and join your Y friends while enjoying a variety of fun recreational sports. Each day campers will have a blast participating in sports, games, and activities that are seemingly out of the ordinary! Join us for a fantastic week of games that may include bocce ball, ultimate frisbee, or perhaps a home run derby, field hockey shoot-out, or even a made-up sport like Base-ketball! Specialty Travel Camp

Full day option with daily field trips to locations all over the Bay Area such as: Great America, Lawrence Hall of Science, or even Magical Bridge Playground.

Travel Camp is a great time for fun and adventure! Campers will embark on daily field trips throughout the Bay Area. Sight-seeing and exploration will guide them through twists and turns, fun, and excitement within the city, nature and all around. Hop in and enjoy the ride!

Do you have what it takes to survive in the great outdoors? Campers will get out in nature to explore basic skills in the great outdoors. Campers discover the finer points of preparing for an outdoor adventure, developing orienteering skills using a map and compass, and learning about plant and animal identification. The Y and partners bridged the growing disconnect between young people and the great outdoors by creating meaningful connections to nature – let's start exploring!

AQUA ADVENTURES

Splash camp doesn't just happen in the pool - this summer we are riding the wave with Travel Camp all over the Bay Area! Each day campers will experience a field trip adventure to aquatic locations, from water parks, aquariums and even splash pads. This camp is the perfect way for campers to stay cool during the hot summer days! Participants must pass a swim test and be 6 years or older by 6/12/23.

CIT Training Week

Counselor-In-Training participants will spend two weeks in this special camp practicing leadership skills, making friends, and having fun. They will be trained in CPR and First Aid. CIT Training weeks prepare CIT campers to have added responsibilities, and assist camp leaders with games, projects, songs, and much more!

CIT Fieldwork

The Fieldwork Program is an opportunity for CITs to use their leadership skills with a group of younger campers while working with the Y's incredible camp staff. CITs must be present daily and will experience various camp programs, assist in the daily operations of camp and receive the valuable on-the-job experience that will help build a strong foundation for any career! CITs must complete the 2-week training prior to participating in the Fieldwork Program. Placement in Fieldwork is not guaranteed.

Financial Assistance

Financial Assistance is available for families who qualify. Please fill out the attached form here, and send to branchFA@ymcasf.org along with two types of income verification. Families can expect to have award amounts in about 15 business days.

Families who receive Financial Assistance during the school year do not need to re-apply for summer.

 

FAQs

The session/camp week I want to register my child(ren) for is full. I've joined a waitlist, what can I expect?

We will notify families via email if a space becomes available. You will have 48 hours to accept or decline the waitlisted spot. If we do not hear back from you, we will move on to the next child on the list. For confidentiality reasons and standard operating procedures, we do not reveal where a child’s spot is on the waitlist.

My child has special needs, who should I contact for support or more information?

YMCA leaders are encouraging, patient, and can help facilitate successful camp experiences for children with mild to moderate disabilities. For specific questions regarding your child, please contact the branch-specific site contact.

What are the YMCA's cancellation and refund policies?

  • Deposits are non-refundable

  • Cancellations that come in 10 days or more before the program begins or earlier are subject to a refund of payment but does not include the deposit.

You can expect to hear from your camp team roughly a week before the camp week begins, which will include details like a packing list, meals and snack policies, etc.
