The Embarcadero YMCA Aquatics Department builds strong kids, strong families, and strong communities by acting as a national leader in safety, offering cutting edge adult and community programming, educating the community on aquatic safety and healthy lifestyles, and providing the resources to  ensure everyone in San Francisco, regardless of their background, has the opportunity to learn to swim.

YMCA Aquatics is about water safety, skill development, and fun for everyone. We have an aquatic program for every skill level and interest. Our programs are about more than just technique and skill; they are about creating positive experiences, developing self-esteem, and building friendships that will last a lifetime.

SWIM STARTERS / Parent and Child Classes. (30-minute classes / 6 months - 3 years)

A / Water Discovery

Introduces infants and toddlers to the aquatic environment.

B / Water Exploration

Focuses on exploring body positions, blowing bubbles, and fundamental safety and aquatic skills.

SWIM BASICS / Recommended skills for all to have around water. (30-minute classes / 3–5 years)

Stage 1 / Water Acclimation

Increases comfort with underwater exploration and introduces basic self-rescue skills performed with assistance.. 

Stage 2 / Water Movement

Encourages forward movement in water and basic self-rescue skills performed independently.

Stage 3 / Water Stamina

Develops intermediate self-rescue skills performed at longer distances than in previous stages.

SWIM STROKES / Skills to support a healthy lifestyle. (40-minute classes / 6–12 years)

Stage 4 / Stroke Introduction

Introduces basic stroke technique in front crawl and back crawl and reinforces water safety through treading water and elementary backstroke.

Stage 5 / Stroke Development

Introduces breaststroke and butterfly and reinforces water safety through treading water and sidestroke.

Stage 6 / Stroke Mechanics

Refines stroke technique on all major competitive strokes and encourages swimming as part of a healthy lifestyle.

 

Youth Swim Team

Our youth swim team challenges, inspires, and unites swimmers of all abilities, and demographics. We offer each swimmer and family a safe community designed to help.

JOINING THE TEAM

Children should demonstrate the ability to swim 50 meters unassisted. To schedule a try-out, contact Head Coach, Mohammad Asaad

SWIM MEETS

Swim meets are held in various locations nationally and across the Bay Area. Meets are great events for the entire family and are open to swimmers of all ages. Meets include sprint, middle distance, mile, and long-distance events.

PRICES

Facility Members: $85 per month

Community Participants: $160 per month
