Chinatown YMCA University (CYU)
The Chinatown YMCA University (CYU) is an after school program for youth grades K-5 who seek extra academic support. Our focus is inclusion, and through academic support and enrichment learning, we strive to meet each student’s academic goals. CYU will work closely with school teachers to develop an after school academic plan for each participant.
After School Educational Program (ASEP)
At the Chinatown YMCA Learning Center, we teach standards-based math and language arts in small, focused classes. Our outcome-based learning objectives adhere to the Common Core standards. The highly structured classes take place in a safe and challenging learning environment. In math, we focus on skill mastery and tackling word problems. In language arts, we focus on planning, organizing, and revising writing.
Student progress is assessed weekly so that we can differentiate the curriculum to meet students’ needs. Every three weeks, we formally assess. Our students become more motivated and successful learners because of the academic skills they develop in our classes.
