The Treasure Island Community
A Place To Grow
Treasure Island (TI) is a man-made landform in the San Francisco Bay and a neighborhood of the City of San Francisco. In 2000, the Embarcadero YMCA took over an Army/Navy recreation facility and began running health and wellness programs for the local residents. In 2013, The Y took over all education, recreation, health, and family services for the residents of Treasure Island. This created a community center like no other on the island. Completely free to all residents, the Y is able to provide care to the youth after school and during the summer, and a state-of-the-art gymnasium geared towards healthy living. The Y also provides the community with family events, creating a very special feeling of community amongst the residents, social service employees, and city officials located on TI. In 2014, we were able to collaborate with the Department of Health, bringing a nurses station within the Y facility and providing all residents with free health care. The Treasure Island YMCA is a truly a unique community center that provides essential services to our neighbors in need.
Since 2006, the Embarcadero YMCA has teamed with the Treasure Island Development Authority (TIDA) to bring YMCA programming and facilities to the residents of Treasure Island. Our goals are to provide space for the community to build strength, find balance, and gather as a community. We offer free programming for youth and adults all year and employ a dedicated Y-staff invested in ensuring the safety and growth of the community.
