General Description

Food Pantry volunteers will assist with the execution of a weekly food pantry distribution at the Chinatown YMCA to approximately 245 community participants.  Volunteers will be helping with set up, greeting participants, line management, distribution, and cleanup of the food pantry. 

The Pantry will be taking place on Thursdays (excluding some holidays) from 1:30 pm to approximately 4:30 pm at the Chinatown YMCA. Volunteers are asked to stay the entire length of the Pantry (approximately 3 hours).

Volunteers should interact with participants in a kind and friendly manner, help answer any questions, and assist in the overall flow of the Pantry.

Teens and seniors are welcome! Youth must be 8 years old and older. Youth ages 8 to 12 years old should be accompanied by a parent/guardian. 

Bilingual (English and Cantonese) volunteers are encouraged to inquire.

Groups are welcome!

Skills and Requirements

  1. The volunteer is responsible for being available during the entirety of the volunteer job from 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm on the day assigned (Notification will be given at least a week in advance).
  2. The volunteer is responsible for being friendly, respectful, and helpful.
  3.  Group volunteers must have a point of contact who will communicate directly with the Pantry Coordinator.
