Creating Spaces where we can Be, Belong and Become
Welcoming Week is in full swing this month across the Bay Area from September 9-18 with our local Y’s. This event brings everyone together to celebrate and embrace our cultural and sometimes generational differences.
This is a “movement of inclusive communities that fully embrace immigrants and their contributions to the social fabric of our country. Created by YMCA of the USA and national partner Welcoming America, Welcoming Week brings together immigrants and U.S.- born residents to promote cross-cultural understanding and raise awareness of the benefits of welcoming everyone.”- YUSA.
This year we will continue to uphold inclusive spaces and build on them as part of our mission. Our association believes in creating and cultivating environments for newcomers to be able to be themselves and feel appreciated. The Y empowers everyone, no matter who they are or where they’re from, by ensuring access to resources, relationships and opportunities for all to learn, grow and thrive; creating spaces where we can be, belong and become. By bringing together people from different backgrounds, perspectives and generations, the Y’s goal is to improve overall health and well-being, ignite youth empowerment and demonstrate the importance of connections in and across 10,000 communities nationwide.
This week is an opportunity for us to uplift and celebrate the diversity of our communities. I’m so happy to be a part of an organization that works hard to ensure that everyone has a place to be and belong at the Y and so, I invite you to join us in our upcoming events and activities and to learn something new as part of our vibrant tapestry that makes up the Bay Area.
