Charles M. Collins

President and Chief Executive Officer

Charles M. Collins is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the YMCA of San Francisco.  Founded in 1853, the YMCA of San Francisco is a not-for-profit organization with an $85 million annual budget that is committed to serving the diverse communities of the Bay Area. The 2020 Vision of the YMCA of San Francisco is “that the healthiest children in America will live in the Bay Area gaining the skills and habits to reach their highest potential and through the strength of our communities, make a valuable contribution to the common cause.”

With 2000 employees and over 2000 volunteers, the YMCA offers dozens of programs and services for over 183,000 children and adults in 14 major branches in San Francisco, San Mateo, and Marin counties and over 120 other off-site program locations. 

From 1983 to 2002, Mr. Collins was President and Chairman of WDG Ventures, Inc., and its affiliated companies which are engaged in the investment and development of commercial and residential real estate. Among the signature development projects completed during Collins’ tenure were The Metreon and the Four Seasons Hotel and Condominiums.

Mr. Collins has practiced law and was a former Deputy Secretary of the Business, Transportation and Housing Agency for the State of California.  He also has an extensive city planning background and direct a comprehensive study for the City and County of San Francisco incorporating economic and fiscal considerations, land use planning, transportation systems, and housing requirements resulting in the Downtown Plan for the City and County of San Francisco.

Mr. Collins serves on the San Francisco Arts Commission, co-Chair of the  ShapeUp SF Coalition, a board member of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and former trustee of Williams College, the San Francisco State University Foundation and the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute.

Mr. Collins received his Bachelor of Arts with honors from Williams College, Master of City Planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Juris Doctor from the Harvard Law School. Under a fellowship from the Thomas J. Watson Foundation, he was awarded a Diploma from the Athens Center of Ekistics in Athens, Greece. Upon completion of M.I.T, he was named the outstanding graduate student in the Department Urban Studies and Planning.  He received the Bicentennial Medal from Williams College in 1999.

Mr. Collins is the author of The African Americans, Viking-Studio Books 1993 (paper 1995) and senior editor of A Day in the Life of Africa, The Tides Foundation and Penguin, 2002.

Jamie Bruning-Miles

Senior Vice President of Operations and Chief Operating Officer

As the COO, Jamie has served in various Y’s across the country and believes that Y inclusion means serving all segments of the communities. As a welcoming, nurturing organization in the Bay Area we strive to ensure all have access to the life changing programs and services we offer. In his spare time, Jamie practices healthy living by using various YMCA’s to maintain an active lifestyle with his family.

Amy Shpall

Chief Development Officer

Amy Shpall has spent the past five years working as a seasoned fundraising and nonprofit professional at the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles where she was part of a team that raises $50 million dollars annually. At the Jewish Federation, Amy served in several different roles to include Vice President of Donor Experience and before that Vice President, Community Engagement. In addition, Amy spent 15 years as an Executive Producer in the television industry and as a television packaging agent at United Talent Agency (UTA) prior to that.

Kathy Cheng

Senior Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer

Kathy has been a finance leader in the Y movement for over 30 years and believes that the Y has a positive impact in the communities we serve every day. Kathy enjoys mentoring staff and has been a public speaker in various capacities inside and outside the non-profit sector. 

Andy Vamis

Vice President, Human Resources and Organizational Effectiveness

With 30 years experience in human resources and organizational development, Andy believes the Y is about human development and changing lives for the better every day. Andy enjoys watching his boys play sports and plays tennis, squash, golf as often as he can. 

Jane Packer

Vice President, Communications and Membership Marketing

With expertise in public affairs, public relations and marketing, Jane leads the communications efforts for the YMCA of San Francisco. She believes through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, the Y has a fundamental impact on our communities. Jane enjoys camping, hiking, golf and travel.  

Rachel Del Monte

District Vice President

As District Vice President, Rachel enjoys advocating for the Y, creating community collaborations and working with our board of managers to engage even more people in our YMCA community.  Rachel enjoys reading, hiking and cooking in her spare time.

Chip Rich

Vice President of Operations

Chip's expertise is in design and delivery of social services and mental health programming with an emphasis on underserved communities. He is the founder of the Urban Services YMCA and believes the Y has a breadth of services and capacity to support all youth and families in our communities.  In his spare time, Chip enjoys spending time with his two children. 

Erin Clark

District Vice President

Erin will always be a youth worker at heart, having spent her formative years working with middle schoolers and earning a BA in Child and Adolescent Development. Since then she’s developed a passion for all aspects of Y work and especially enjoys staff development.  She believes the Y levels the playing field to create opportunity for all people to reach their highest potential.  Erin loves to explore the world through the eyes of her toddler and enjoys literature, film and radio while toddler is sleeping. 

Linda Griffith

Vice President, General Counsel, Secretary

Linda's expertise is in law, risk management and youth development and believes the Y's model of actively seeking to reflect the needs of the communities is the reason for its success and longevity in strengthening the foundations of community.  Linda enjoys hiking, yoga, live music and spending time with family and friends. 

Chris McComic

Vice President of Property Development and Facilities Management

Chris is a seasoned real estate development, facilities operations/management and construction professional and has been working in the field for the past twenty five years. He was a member of the Mission Valley YMC board in San Diego for 12 years where he served as the chairperson for both facilities and new construction committees and was directly involved with the construction of the Toby Wells YMCA, Mission Valley YMCA renovation/additions and multiple facility rehab projects in the YMCA of San Diego. In the fall of 2019, Chris joined our team at the YMCA of San Francisco.

Takija Gardner

Takija is a seasoned YMCA professional of 13 years with experience in youth development, community capacity building and diversity, inclusion and global initiatives.
