Family Engagement Coordinator Position Overview
The Richmond District YMCA is seeking a Family Engagement Coordinator to manage community initiatives at Argonne Elementary. The Family Engagement Coordinator plays a pivotal role in strengthening the connections between families, schools, and the broader community. This role focuses on planning and managing family engagement initiatives for the After School Program and school day. Responsibilities include fostering family-school partnerships, coaching on strategies, collaborating with leadership teams, organizing events to strengthen community ties, and providing resources for families and community programs.
This key role helps foster a culture of collaboration, inclusivity, and shared responsibility for educational achievement and overall well-being. The Family Engagement Coordinator will also assist in YMCA special events, including, but not limited to Healthy Kids Day and Annual Campaigns. As a Family Engagement Coordinator, you will make a meaningful impact on families, students, and the community.
Family Engagement Coordinator Responsibilities
- Develop and Execute Family Engagement Initiatives: Create and oversee innovative programs to strengthen relationships between families, school staff, and the After-School Program, ensuring alignment with organizational goals. As a Family Engagement Coordinator, your role is crucial.
- Promote Family-School Partnerships: Act as a liaison to build trust and effective communication between families and school leadership, empowering parents and guardians to play an active role in their child’s education.
- Support Student Achievement: Provide coaching and guidance to families and staff on proven engagement strategies that positively impact student outcomes. The Family Engagement Coordinator’s role is essential to this process.
- Organize Community and School Events: Plan and manage special events that foster collaboration and connection among families, school faculty, and the after-school team. Events include workshops, family nights, and activities that celebrate the school community.
- Curate and Share Resources: Research and provide families with access to valuable resources, including community programs, educational tools, and support services tailored to their needs.
- Collaborate with Leadership Teams: Partner with school-day and after-school leadership to align family engagement efforts with broader educational and community objectives.
- Contribute to YMCA Events: Assist in signature YMCA initiatives, including Healthy Kids Day, Annual Campaigns, and other special events that promote family wellness and community involvement.
Minimum Qualifications
- 21 years or older
- 2 years of college, Associate’s Degree, or equivalent experience
- At least 6 months of experience working with elementary school students and families, meeting the needs of youth. This can be a great asset for a Family Engagement Coordinator role.
- Must meet minimum SFUSD Instructional Aide requirements
- Strong organizational, interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.
- Available Monday-Friday ~7:00 am-6:00 pm, some weekends
- Current YMCA approved CPR and First Aid Certification (can complete upon hire)
- Fingerprint background check clearance
- TB test clearance
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree with teaching credential or passing score on NCLB Exam
- Bilingual in Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, or Vietnamese, which can enhance the Family Engagement Coordinator’s effectiveness.
