Position Summary
Under the direction of the Teens Program Director, the Youth & Teen Center Coordinator is responsible for developing and facilitating academic support, social-emotional learning opportunities, and activities that encourage exploration of personal skills, interests, and career paths. The coordinator should be skilled in working in dynamic, high-engagement environments and be able to create welcoming and inclusive spaces for all participants and staff. This role will collaborate with the Teens Program Leaders and Teens Interns to strengthen the program’s connection with students, families, community partners, the Mission YMCA, and members of the Mission/Excelsior community
Job Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Development
- Plan, coordinate, and deliver enrichment programs that support wellness, career exploration, skill-building, social awareness, and community engagement.
- Collaborate with community partners to enhance on-site programming and youth experiences.
- Lead daily academic and enrichment sessions, including occasional Saturdays, ensuring participant safety and program quality.
- Support Youth & Teen Center operations, maintaining alignment with YMCA child safety and program standards.
Youth Support & Engagement
- Promote academic success through homework support, grade checks, referrals, and participant intake.
- Build positive relationships with youth, families, and staff to foster a supportive and inclusive environment.
- Serve as a positive role model, demonstrating the YMCA values of caring, respect, honesty, and responsibility.
Administration & Compliance
- Maintain accurate records, including attendance, incident reports, behavior logs, and emergency documentation.
- Complete and submit all required reporting for DCYF and other funders on time.
- Manage administrative tasks such as data entry, attendance tracking, timecard reviews, and budget monitoring.
- Ensure program materials and spaces are organized, safe, and well maintained.
Safety & Risk Management
- Uphold YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting, and risk management.
- Ensure all youth programs meet YMCA of San Francisco safety and security standards.
- Complete required ADP LMS and Y-USA e-learning safety trainings before the first shift.
Team Leadership & Professional Growth
- Participate in team meetings, trainings, and professional development throughout the year.
- Support program evaluation and improvement through tools such as YPQA and member surveys.
- Contribute to a positive team culture through collaboration, communication, and reliability.
- Develop competencies in Cause-Driven Leadership areas: Advancing Our Mission and Cause, Building Relationships, Leading Operations, and Developing & Inspiring Others.
Qualifications
- Minimum age 21; high school diploma or equivalent
- 2+ years of experience working with youth or teens in after-school or enrichment settings
- Knowledge of San Francisco community health and wellness resources
- Experience engaging parents, caregivers, and youth from diverse communities
- Understanding of Youth Development Practices, Common Core Standards, and Restorative Practices
- Strong communication, organization, and time management skills
- Ability to plan, prioritize, and collaborate effectively in dynamic environments
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and high-quality service for youth and families
- Completion of YMCA-required CPR, First Aid, AED, and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or higher in education, public health, psychology, or related field preferred or equivalent professional and community experience
- Bilingual skills in Spanish or Cantonese languages
Work Environment & Physical Demands
Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor settings, including community centers and schools, with varying noise levels. The role requires regular movement—standing, walking, bending, reaching—and occasional lifting up to 25 pounds. Must be able to respond to safety situations and engage with youth and families. Some desk work, computer use, and local travel between sites are required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. Salary Description
The Youth & Teen Center Coordinator position offers a Salary of $24-$28/hour. Based on experience, qualifications, and alignment with salary benchmarks for similar roles.
