Position Summary
Under the primary supervision of the Healthy Living Director, the Wellness Coordinator will be responsible for creating an engaging and supportive environment through successful implementation of the branch’s Wellness Attendant department. The Wellness Coordinator will inspire members to achieve their wellness goals while embodying the YMCA’s core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. You will deliver impactful wellness programs that foster healthy living in both our members and the surrounding community. This position combines your passion for fitness and your commitment to providing exceptional service in a safe, supportive environment.
Job Responsibilities
Safety, Compliance, and Organizational Culture
- Uphold YMCA policies for safety, supervision, and risk management.
- Exhibit YMCA core values of caring, respect, honesty, and responsibility in interactions.
- Uphold the organization’s mission and values in all interactions and program initiatives
Program Development and Management
- Develop, implement, and oversee health and wellness programs that align with organizational goals.
- Coordinate schedules and manage program logistics, including staffing and equipment needs.
Member Support and Engagement
- Provide support and resources to members to promote healthy living and wellness practices.
- Communication and Coordination
- Facilitate communication among staff, members, and supervisors to address needs, resolve concerns, and provide updates.
Monitoring, Reporting, and Continuous Improvement
- Monitor program performance and member feedback to identify areas for improvement.
- Maintain accurate records and reports related to programs, attendance, and staff performance.
- Stay informed on trends in health and wellness to continuously improve program offerings.
Staff Development and Administrative Duties
- Support staff development through mentoring, training, and performance reviews.
- Work up to 20 hours in an administrative capacity and 20 hours in a direct service capacity through Wellness Attending.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- 2+ years of experience in both administrative and customer service roles and group exercise instruction.
- 2+ years of experience in hiring, training, and supervising staff.
- Effective leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Strong computer, written, and verbal communication abilities.
- Availability to work early mornings, evenings, and/or weekends
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual in Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin or any other languages.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
The Wellness Coordinator position at the YMCA primarily takes place indoors within a fitness and wellness facility, though occasional responsibilities may require working outdoors in varying weather conditions. The indoor environment includes offices, fitness centers, and workout areas where the coordinator will manage administrative tasks, support staff, and interact directly with members. Outdoor activities may include special wellness events, fitness classes, or community engagement programs, requiring flexibility and comfort working in different environmental conditions such as heat, cold, or rain.
The Wellness Coordinator role involves moderate to active movement throughout the day, including standing, walking, and engaging with members on the wellness floor. The position may require lifting and moving equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, as well as bending, stretching, and assisting others with physical activities. A strong level of physical fitness and stamina is necessary to safely perform these duties while maintaining the high energy and professionalism expected in a member-facing role.

Salary Description
The Wellness Coordinator position offers a compensation range of $24.00 – $30.00 per hour. This rate is based on salary benchmarking for similar roles and is aligned with grant fund approvals and requirements for the position.
