Position Summary

The Early Childhood Education (ECE) Trainer plays a key role in advancing the YMCA of Greater San Francisco’s mission to strengthen community and ensure that all children, staff, and families have the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive. Grounded in the Y’s commitment to youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility, this position delivers high-quality, inclusive training that supports safe, developmentally appropriate, and responsive early learning environments.

This role provides direct training services focused on Child Abuse Prevention, De-escalation, and CPR/AED/First Aid for YMCA of San Francisco staff. The ECE Trainer is responsible for facilitating engaging learning experiences, modeling cause-driven leadership, and supporting staff effectiveness across diverse early childhood and transitional kindergarten (ECE/TK) settings. This position is not compensated to lead YMCA of the USA training classes or modules.

Job Responsibilities

Training Delivery & Facilitation

• Facilitate a minimum of one and up to four Early Childhood Education and/or Transitional Kindergarten (ECE/TK) trainings annually.
• Deliver effective, engaging, and inclusive trainings that empower staff to strengthen safety practices, respond to challenging behaviors, and support healthy child development.
• Apply “Listen First” principles and Leadership Development Coaching strategies to foster trust, learning, and collaboration.
• Arrive at least 30 minutes prior to scheduled trainings and remain available after sessions to support room setup and breakdown.

Program Administration & Continuous Improvement

• Maintain accurate and timely training documentation and required records.
• Assess, refine, and modify training procedures to improve program efficiency and internal training systems.
• Demonstrate openness to feedback from participants, colleagues, and supervisors; incorporate feedback to strengthen facilitation skills and program delivery.
• Commit to ongoing professional development and continuous improvement as a trainer and leader.

Collaboration & Organizational Engagement

• Participate in department meetings, staff trainings, and required professional learning opportunities.
• Complete all mandatory YGFS trainings prior to the first shift and as required thereafter.
• Collaborate effectively with a diverse staff population and contribute to a respectful, inclusive, and mission-driven workplace.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
• Two or more years of professional YMCA experience, including experience delivering training to diverse populations.
• Strong relationship-building, facilitation, coaching, planning, problem-solving, and written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with staff from a variety of backgrounds and lived experiences; demonstrates patience, adaptability, and accountability.
• Results-driven with the ability to balance consistency and flexibility in a training environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer applications.
• Current ASHI CPR/AED/First Aid Community Certification.
• Flexible schedule, including availability to facilitate trainings on weekends as needed.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

The work environment includes YMCA facilities, training rooms, classrooms, and, at times, school campus locations. The role may involve periods of standing, walking, sitting, presenting, and light physical activity associated with classroom setup and breakdown. The individual must have the physical, visual, and auditory ability to facilitate trainings, observe participants, review materials, and respond to safety-related needs, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Salary Description

The Early Childhood Education Trainer position offers a compensation rate of $27.00 – $32.00 per hour. This rate is based on salary benchmarking for similar roles and is aligned with budget and grant fund approvals and requirements for the position.
