Position Summary
Under the direction of the Denman Beacon Director, the Student Success Program Manager is responsible for overseeing and implementing Student Success programs at James Denman Middle School. This role focuses on improving academic performance and fostering social-emotional learning (SEL) skills through programs aligned with benchmarks set by school administrators and teachers.
The Student Success Program Manager serves as a key representative of Urban Services YMCA within the James Denman community, acting as a liaison between public and private entities to support the mission of the Urban Services Y at James Denman Beacon Community School. This role requires strong leadership, program management, and relationship-building skills to ensure program success.
The Student Success Program Manager will oversee daily operations, delegate responsibilities, and ensure program activities align with both short-term and long-term organizational objectives. This is a year-round position that follows the school district calendar, as well as YMCA Summer Camp and Family Programs.
Job Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Management
- Lead and oversee Student Success programs, ensuring alignment with school benchmarks and student needs.
- Supervise and support full-time Student Success staff in collaboration with James Denman Middle School.
- Ensure after-school program operations run smoothly, including direct leadership during program hours.
Compliance & Reporting
- Manage and maintain grant compliance, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
- Oversee participant registration and data entry processes for all grant contracts.
- Maintain records essential for program evaluation, control, and reporting of results.
Community Engagement & Collaboration
- Serve as a liaison between Urban Services YMCA and public/private entities to support community engagement.
- Strengthen efforts to integrate Student Success programs with school initiatives to ensure seamless alignment.
Staff & Volunteer Development
- Foster a strong team culture by providing guidance and support to staff and volunteers.
- Ensure effective collaboration between program staff and school personnel.
- Participate in staff meetings and trainings as required.
Events & Fundraising
- Actively engage in the Annual Giving Campaign and help plan and execute a site fundraiser.
- Support and participate in branch and department-related annual events.
Qualifications
- Minimum 21 years of age.
- High School diploma/equivalent and any of the following:
- Completion of 48 college units or associate’s degree.
- Passed CA Basic Education Skills Test (CBEST).
- Passed District Instructional Aide Exam.
- Understanding of Case Management and service delivery.
- Availability Monday-Friday, 40 hours/week during program hours; occasional weekends as needed.
- At least 2 years of experience working in youth programs.
- Clearance of TB test within the last 2 years.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in education or related field.
- Experience working in school environments, particularly local districts.
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese, or other languages.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
The Student Success Program Manager will work primarily in a school and community center setting, with responsibilities that require both office-based administrative tasks and active, on-site program supervision. The role involves frequent interaction with students, staff, school personnel, and community partners in a fast-paced environment. Physical demands include standing and walking for extended periods, participating in youth activities, setting up and breaking down program materials, and occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds. The position also requires flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and special events as needed to support program activities and community engagement.

Salary Description
The salary range for the Student Success Program Manager position is $56,160 – $68,640 annually, based on qualifications and experience. Compensation is determined using salary and hourly benchmarking to ensure alignment with industry standards and equitable pay practices. The final salary offer is contingent upon grant fund approval and budget availability for the position as required.
