Position Summary

The STEAM/Enrichment Specialist is responsible for designing and leading engaging Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) enrichment activities at their program site. This role ensures programming aligns with YMCA curriculum guidelines and Youth Development Principles while fostering student engagement and learning. The Specialist collaborates with the Site Coordinator and STEAM Coach to implement high-quality programming, procure materials, and support logistics.

After School Program dates:

· San Francisco ASP sites: must be available to work August 19, 2024 – June 4, 2025

Job Responsibilities

Program Development and Facilitation

· Design and lead one-hour STEAM enrichment classes up to twice per week.

· Implement project-based learning activities that promote creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving.

· Ensure lessons align with YMCA curriculum guidelines and Youth Development Principles.

· Co-host a STEAM event that engages families and the community at the After School Program site.

Collaboration and Professional Development

· Attend all required training sessions facilitated by YSF’s STEAM Academy.

· Participate in monthly coaching sessions with a STEAM Coach to enhance program quality.

· Coordinate with Site Coordinators, After School Program staff, and YMCA teams to support enrichment programming.

Student Engagement and Assessment

· Maintain student attendance records for STEAM activities.

· Identify STEAM participants during the YMCA Core Survey cycle.

· Participate in pre/post assessments to measure student progress and program effectiveness.

Program Logistics and Compliance

· Support the Site Coordinator with the procurement of materials and logistical planning for enrichment activities.

· Ensure adherence to YMCA policies, safety guidelines, and program expectations.

Qualifications

· 18+ for elementary programs; 21+ for middle school programs.

· Associate’s degree or higher, or High School diploma/equivalent with one of the following:

o 48+ completed college units (verified by transcript),

o Passing score on the CA Basic Education Skills Test (CBEST), or

o Passing score on a District Instructional Aide Exam.

· Strong teamwork and communication skills.

· Must have knowledge or expertise in youth development, particularly in the STEAM field.

· Available Monday–Friday during program hours (~1:00–6:00 pm), with some morning hours for coaching and development.

· TB Test clearance within last 2 years (required for programs on school district sites).

Preferred Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree in STEAM or related field.

· Experience working with elementary or middle school-aged youth.

· Bilingual skills in Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, or other languages preferred but not required.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

The STEAM Enrichment Specialist works in a dynamic school-based environment, engaging with students in both classroom and recreational settings. The role requires standing, walking, and actively participating in hands-on STEAM activities for extended periods. Specialists may need to lift and carry program materials, set up and break down activity spaces, and adapt to indoor and outdoor environments based on program needs. The position involves frequent interaction with students, staff, and families in a dynamic learning environment that requires adaptability and strong communication skills.

Salary Description

The STEAM Enrichment Specialist position offers a compensation range of $20.40 – $25.00 per hour. This rate is based on salary benchmarking for similar roles and is aligned with grant fund approvals and requirements for the position.
