Position Summary

The Site Director oversees the planning, development, coordination, and management of the before and after-school time at Chinese Immersion School and traditional summer and school year camps at Buchanan YMCA. These programs include after school programming, summer day camp, school year camps and STEAM-focused initiatives. The Director ensures the delivery of high-quality, engaging, and inclusive experiences for participants while maintaining compliance with program standards and partner expectations.


The position is responsible for staff supervision, operational oversight, and partnership engagement. This includes supporting and coaching program staff, fostering strong relationships with school administrators, families, community partners, and YMCA colleagues. The Director works collaboratively with senior leadership to align programs with organizational goals and youth development strategies.

Key responsibilities include fiscal oversight (budgeting and contract administration), participating in strategic initiatives within the Youth Development POD, and contributing to the YMCA’s Annual Giving Campaign. The role also serves as a liaison with public and private partners in support of the YMCA’s mission and values.

The position requires adaptability, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to creating a safe, supportive, and enriching environment for all participants and staff.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

This position works in an active and dynamic environment that includes both school and YMCA program settings. Work takes place in classrooms, multipurpose rooms, outdoor play areas, community spaces, and administrative offices. The role involves frequent interaction with children, families, staff, and school and community partners. Noise levels vary depending on program activities, and the position requires managing multiple priorities while maintaining a supportive and professional presence. The role is primarily conducted in person and may require attendance at events or activities during evenings or weekends.

This position requires the ability to move comfortably throughout program and school environments, including standing, walking, bending, and participating in light physical activities. The Director may occasionally lift or carry program supplies up to 25 pounds and assist with setup or breakdown of activity spaces. The role includes supervising children indoors and outdoors, supporting field trips, and responding quickly to situations that may require physical mobility.
