Position Summary 

The Resident Camp Leader III is responsible for creating a safe, engaging, and educational environment that fosters personal growth and skill development for campers. Reporting to the Program Director, this role oversees specific camp programs and age groups, ensuring a positive experience through activity management and camper support. Leaders will live in shared cabins, lead activities, and manage schedules for designated areas. As part of the Camp Summer Leadership Team, this position supports camp programming, mentors staff, and serves on an overnight on-call rotation to supervise campers. The role also manages specialized program areas, such as the Climbing Tower, Zip Line, Archery, Canoeing, Hiking, and Arts & Crafts for campers and user groups. 

Job Responsibilities 

  • Provide high-quality customer service and meet all program participants’ needs. 
  • Plan and lead engaging activities that promote personal growth and social skills. 
  • Prioritize participant safety by following emergency and safety protocols. 
  • Build meaningful relationships with staff, parents, and campers. 
  • Maintain professionalism in all interactions. 
  • Foster camper connections with peers and the YMCA community. 
  • Promote safety, hygiene, and health by adhering to and enforcing established protocols. 
  • Encourage campers’ understanding and appreciation of natural and social environments. 
  • Recognize and reinforce positive behavior, personal growth, and skill development. 
  • Accurately submit reports, including incidents, health logs, and timecards, on time. 
  • Actively participate in cabin, unit, and camp-wide activities, assisting in program areas as needed. 
  • Rotating overnight on-call duties are part of this role and are shared between Camp Leader IIIs and Camp Leader IVs. 
  • Ensure compliance with YMCA, ACA, and applicable to local, state, and federal standards. 

Requirements 

  • Must be 21 years or older. 
  • Two or more years of experience in a resident youth camp setting. 
  • Creativity and knowledge in areas such as arts, culture, health, fitness, or the outdoors. 
  • Proficiency in supervising and mentoring youth. 
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals of diverse ages, backgrounds, and experiences. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including active listening, empathy, and accountability. 
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification (must obtain within 30 days of hire). 

Work Environment & Physical Demands 

This role is primarily outdoors, requiring physical stamina, mobility, and the ability to lift equipment, lead activities, and assist campers as needed. Extended periods of standing, walking, and participation in physical activities are expected. Flexibility is required for long, variable hours, including overnight shifts. Meals and lodging are provided for the duration of the summer camp program.

The Resident Camp Leader III position offers a compensation range of $745.36 weekly salary. This rate is based on salary benchmarking for similar roles and is aligned with grant fund approvals and requirements for the position.
