Position Summary 

Stonestown YMCA is seeking a full-time Recreation Linked Day Program Leaders for Commodore Sloat Elementary School – 50 Darien Way, San Francisco, CA 94127

The Recreation Linked Day Program Leader plays a critical role in bridging the school day and after-school program experience. This position supports students during both structured and unstructured times, focusing on academic and recreational activities that promote learning, engagement, and personal growth. The program specifically targets the needs of underperforming students and English Learners, providing literacy interventions, academic enrichment, and recreational activities to foster significant academic and social gains. 

After School Program Dates: August 19, 2024 – June 4, 2025

Job Responsibilities 

Program Planning and Implementation 

  • Plan and implement engaging educational enrichment activities aligned with school-day academic content and program themes. 
  • Prepare weekly lesson plans and bi-annual behavior management plans. 

Student Supervision and Engagement 

  • Supervise and lead recreational activities during lunch and recess to promote community, engagement, and safety. 
  • Manage a classroom of approximately 20 students during the After School Program, setting clear expectations for behavior and participation. 

Academic Support 

  • Facilitate daily homework support and academic lessons for after-school participants. 

Behavior Management and Student Development 

  • Track and communicate student behavior and progress to families and caregivers. 
  • Utilize restorative practices to resolve conflicts between students and promote positive behavior. 

Operational Compliance and Reporting 

  • Follow program schedules, templates, and engagement expectations for all activities. 
  • Complete weekly attendance reports and ensure all assigned deadlines are met. 

Professional Development and Collaboration 

  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required.

Qualifications 

  • 18+ for elementary programs.
  • Associate’s degree or higher, or High School diploma/equivalent with one of the following:
    • 48+ completed college units (verified by transcript),  
    • Passing score on the CA Basic Education Skills Test (CBEST), or  
    • Passing score on a District Instructional Aide Exam.  
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.  
  • Knowledge or expertise in youth development. 
  • Comfortable leading physical activities with youth. 
  • Available Monday–Friday during program hours (9:30 am-6:00 pm, shifts may vary, up to 40 hours/week).  
  • TB Test clearance within last 2 years (required for programs on school district sites).  

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in child development or related field.  
  • 2 or more years of experience working with elementary or middle school-aged youth.   
  • Bilingual skills in Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, or other languages preferred but not required.  
  • Knowledge of arts, dance, drama, sports, or other enrichment areas.  
  • Connections in the local community.  

Work Environment & Physical Demands 

The Recreation Linked Day Program Leader works in a dynamic environment at local elementary or middle school sites, including indoor classrooms and outdoor schoolyards. The role involves frequent standing, walking, and active participation in physical activities such as recreational sports and games. The environment can be fast-paced and loud, and the role may require occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds.

Salary Description  

The Recreation Linked Day Program Leader position offers a compensation range of $19.50 – $22.00 per hour. This rate is based on salary benchmarking for similar roles and is aligned with grant fund approvals and requirements for the position.
