Position Summary 

Under the supervision of the Clinical Director, the Mental Health Clinician is responsible for providing therapy in accordance with the legal and ethical standards established by the professional field and the YMCA of San Francisco’s mission. This clinic-based position involves managing a caseload of clients, both in-person and virtually, and includes conducting assessments, providing individual and family counseling, offering crisis intervention, and delivering case management services.

Job Responsibilities 

Clinical Services  

  • Provide individual and family therapy to clients in person and virtually.  
  • Conduct assessments and develop tailored treatment plans.  
  • Deliver crisis intervention services as needed.  
  • Maintain accurate and timely electronic documentation.  

Collaboration and Coordination 

  • Partner with administrative personnel to align services with clinical and operational standards.  
  • Work with the intake coordinator to manage assigned caseloads and ensure client needs are met.  
  • Participate in case consultations and collaborative sessions with other clinicians 

Compliance and Reporting  

  • Ensure services adhere to legal, ethical, and professional standards, including child abuse reporting laws.  
  • Apply HIPAA compliance regulations and maintain confidentiality of client information.  
  • Maintain documentation in accordance with YMCA policies and professional guidelines.  

Professional Development  

  • Engage in individual and group consultation opportunities offered by the YMCA.  
  • Stay updated on best practices in mental health services.  
  • Participate in training and mentorship opportunities, particularly for bilingual populations.  

Qualifications 

  • A master’s degree in counseling, psychology, or social work.  
  • Current registration with the Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS).  
  • 1+ year of post-graduate experience working with youth and their families. 
  • Knowledge of legal and ethical standards of practice, including requirements for reporting child abuse. 

Preferred Qualifications  

  • Experience in crisis management, collaboration, school services and provision of training.  
  • Bilingual skills in Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, or other languages.  

Work Environment & Physical Demands 

This position operates in a dynamic environment, including clinics, schools (K-12), public housing, and social service settings. The role requires the ability to conduct in-person sessions, virtual sessions, and case consultations. The clinician must be comfortable working in diverse community settings and navigating varied physical environments. Flexibility, resilience, and adaptability are essential to ensure effective service delivery to clients from a wide range of backgrounds. 

The physical demands of the position include the ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods, as well as lift or carry light to moderate weights, such as files or office supplies. The role may also require physical activities like bending, reaching, or other movements during client sessions or office tasks. Additionally, the position requires visual and auditory capabilities to observe and engage with clients, including those in virtual formats.

Salary Description 

The Mental Health Clinician position offers a compensation range of $34.50 – $39.50 per hour. This rate is based on salary benchmarking for similar roles and is aligned with grant fund approvals and requirements for the position.
