Position Summary 

The Health and Wellness Coordinator develops, implements, and oversees health and wellness programs that foster an engaging and supportive environment for members. This role includes managing personal training and wellness initiatives to enhance the overall member experience and program effectiveness. 

Following the Y of San Francisco’s member engagement strategies, the coordinator collaborates with branch leadership and wellness staff to increase participation, ensure program quality, and align offerings with community needs. Responsibilities include scheduling, staff development, and maintaining accurate, branded wellness materials.

Work Environment and Physical Demands 

The Health and Wellness Coordinator role involves a dynamic work environment that requires both administrative and hands-on engagement. The position includes extended periods of standing, walking, and moving to facilitate fitness programs, engage with members, and oversee facility operations. Additionally, responsibilities may involve lifting and handling fitness equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. While most duties take place indoors within a fitness center or office setting, occasional outdoor activities may be required for special events or wellness initiatives. This role also demands schedule flexibility, with availability for morning, evening, and weekend shifts to accommodate member needs and program operations. 

This position requires a balance of administrative and direct service work, with up to 20 hours per week dedicated to program coordination, staff supervision, and data tracking. The remaining hours involve leading group fitness classes, conducting wellness coaching sessions, and fostering member engagement. Ensuring a clean, safe, and inclusive environment is essential, requiring adherence to YMCA policies and health and safety standards. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, member-focused setting, maintaining a welcoming atmosphere for individuals of all fitness levels.

Salary Description  

The Health and Wellness Coordinator offers a compensation range of $24.00 – $30.00 per hour. This rate is based on salary benchmarking for similar roles and is aligned with grant fund approvals and requirements for the position.
