Position Summary 

Urban Services YMCA, the social services branch of the YMCA of San Francisco, provides free support and programs for youth and families throughout the city. The Western Addition Family Resource Center (WAFRC) Director oversees a program designed to offer holistic support to families with children, focusing on prevention, early intervention, and healthy child development. 

Reporting to the Associate Executive Director, the Director leads program implementation, supervises and develops staff, and ensures high-quality service delivery. Responsibilities include recruiting, training, and managing a team of five full-time staff members; advancing program development; overseeing data collection and reporting; supporting grant reporting requirements; and ensuring compliance with service, quality, and confidentiality standards. The Director also contributes to building strong community partnerships and supporting the resource center’s mission to strengthen and empower families. 

Job Responsibilities 

A. Program Leadership & Management 

  • Oversee implementation of the WAFRC program and recruit/hire qualified staff. 
  • Lead program development and implementation of services. 
  • Create and manage a sustainable program budget. 
  • Coordinate activities, develop and implement operational systems, initiate policies, and oversee overall operations. 

B. Staff Supervision & Development 

  • Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team. 
  • Supervise, coach, and support agency staff effectively. 
  • Recruit, train, and supervise staff (as noted in the introduction). 

C. Service Delivery Oversight & Compliance 

  • Monitor service delivery and complete required service and outcome reports. 
    7 & 15. Ensure compliance with mandated reporting requirements. 
  • Follow all confidentiality requirements regarding client information. 
  • Maintain and evaluate program records and compile data for funder reporting. 

D. Community and Partner Engagement 

  • Work with FRC/community partners to ensure positive working relationships. 
  • Be available to community and partners after hours, as needed 
  • Contribute to the success of community events. 

E. Cultural Responsiveness & Inclusion 

  • Provide input on ensuring programming reflects the cultural diversity of children and families served. 

F. Funding & Resource Development 

  • Apply for grants to increase resources for the community. 

Qualifications 

  • A Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in social work, psychology or counseling and at least 2 years of professional experience working in a community setting or the equivalent OR
  • A BA in social work, education, psychology or counseling and 5 years of experience working within a community setting or the equivalent 
  • Previous supervisory, staff development and training experience 
  • Possess the interpersonal and clinical skills to interact with interact with staff and families who may have experienced trauma as well as other community resources that may be of assistance to the families. 
  • Experience working collaboratively in partnership with non-profits, public agencies, educational entities, parents and other stakeholders  
  • The candidate must possess a variety of skills for development of case and treatment plans, and the ability to effectively manage clients through a variety of human service. 
  • Excellent organizational skills, time management, and ability to multitask and manage multiple projects.  
  • Strong leadership skills, program development experience, and an understanding of enhancing community engagement. 
  • Conflict resolution skills. 
  • Proven ability to work with people from a variety of different ethnic, socioeconomic, educational, religious, sexual orientation, gender identity, and generational backgrounds. 
  • Proven ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Reflect a professional demeanor, demonstrates professional and respectful communication style. 
  • Experience complying with confidentiality policies and procedures and mandated reporting laws. 
  • Ability to remain HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) compliant. 
  • Flexibility to attend evening and weekend functions and to travel as required  

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Bilingual skills in Spanish, Samoan or Cantonese  

Work Environment & Physical Demands 

This position operates in a communitybased service environment that includes office settings, partner agency sites, and local community spaces. The role requires regular use of computers, phones, and standard office equipment, as well as inperson engagement with families, staff, and community partners. Work may involve occasional exposure to varied weather conditions during outreach or community events. The noise level may range from quiet to moderately loud depending on activities and location. 

The position requires the ability to remain stationary for extended periods while performing administrative tasks; move about program sites and community locations; and lift or carry up to 25 pounds of materials or equipment. The role also requires effective verbal and written communication in person, by phone, and through digital platforms. Travel within San Francisco is required for meetings, events, and program activities. Some evening and weekend work may be necessary based on program needs.
