An Uprising to End Racism
A Statement from YMCA of San Francisco President and CEO Chuck Collins:
At times like these words are inadequate to express the grief we are all feeling regarding the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and too many others. On behalf of the YMCA of San Francisco, our thoughts and prayers are with their families and the Minneapolis community.
Communities across this country are unified by these unfortunate circumstances. The uprising spreading across this country is fueled by systemic racial issues that have been ingrained in the fabric of this nation for decades. It is our responsibility as a community organization to ensure all individuals live and thrive in a safe and equitable society. Now more than ever, the YMCA of San Francisco stands committed to our work to erase racism, inequities and disparities that exist throughout our communities.
Additionally, we must act in our best interest to knock down the walls of injustice that will grant future generations access to higher social, economic, and political power. Not one organization can do this alone, the Y will advance our collaborations with national and local community partners to ensure that our future is grounded in social justice and equity.
