At the Y, we offer fun for every child this summer, regardless of age, income and background. Plan your summer fun at the Y, and experience the impact we can make in your families life and community. We can't wait to be a part of your summer! Read below to explore our camp offerings and find the right camp for your child. Summer Camp is open to all children entering grades K-10 in the Fall of 2019.

Camper Age Groups

  • Traditional Camp (Discoverers): For campers entering grades K-1
  • Traditional Camp (Adventurers): For campers entering grades 2-3
  • Traditional Camp (Explorers): For campers entering grades 4-5
  • Traditional Camp (Movin' On): For campers entering grades 6-8
  • Specialty Camp: For campers entering grades K-2 and grades 3-5
  • Sports Camp: For campers entering grades K-2 and grades 3-5
  • YBike Camp: For campers entering grades K-2, grades 3-5, and grades 6-8
  • Counselors in Training (CIT): For teens entering grades 9-10

Please register for sessions according to the grade your camper will enter in the Fall. Campers are separated by grade level groups to ensure our programming is developmentally appropriate and engaging. We cannot make exceptions to this, however all camper groups will interact throughout the camp program.

All Campers must be registered as YMCA Members. Join or renew as a Facility Member or Community Participant online at the Peninsula Family YMCA before registering for camp. 

Facility Memberships
A Facility Membership at the Peninsula Family YMCA offers many benefits for the whole family. In addition to a lower registration fee for camp, Facility Members have full use of the workout facilities, basketball gym, pool and sauna, YKids childcare, and lower rates for fee based programs such as swim lessons and youth sports

Community Participants
Registering as a Community Participant is completely free for all members in the household, and allows registration for fee based programs, including all camps, swim lessons, and youth programs.

How to create or update your member profile

Click Here to Begin

  • Select “Create Account”.
  • Enter the required personal information when prompted.
  • Once signed, click “My Account” in the links at the top right of the page. Check to make sure your contact info is current.
  • If your information needs to be updated, click “Edit Contact Information” in the contact information profile box.
  • To update your payment method click to the “Billing Methods” section. Select the billing method and edit and update the information needed.

Scheduling Your Payments

To add a payment method:

From your online account main screen, click on “Payment Method” and click “Add Credit Card” or “Add Bank Draft”. Once you have updated or added this info, click “Submit”.

To make or schedule a payment:

From your online account main screen click “My Balance”. Click either “Pay Fees Now” or Schedule A Payment For A Later Date” (Note: payments cannot be scheduled after their due date or rescheduled if they are past due).

When is the balance due for camp?

A non-refundable deposit of $35 per week is due at the time of registration. The remaining balance for each camp is due 14 days prior to the start date of camp. Failure to pay balances will result in the deposit and the registration being forfeited.

Financial Assistance

Financial Assistance

We strive to make Y Camp accessible to all. To the extent possible, financial assistance is available thanks to our generous donors who contribute to our Annual Giving Campaign. To apply for Financial Assistance, complete and send your Registration form and Financial Assistance form (Español) by April 15 to Kendra Zien. You will be notified by May 6 regarding your application. Families applying for FA will have a refundable deposit of $10 per week is due at the time of registration. Contact Kendra Zien at (650) 294-2627 for more information.

Payment Subsidies

Third party subsidies may be used to pay for program costs as approved by the agency. Please contact your eligibility worker to initiate the paperwork process, as well as Kendra Zien at (650) 294-2627 to ensure proper enrollment in camp programs.

Traditional Camp (Grades K-5)

For Discoverers (K-1), Adventurers (2-3), and Explorers (4-5)

Traditional Day Camp offers everything you think of when you think of camp: games, songs, swimming, field trips, arts & crafts, sports, and whole lot of fun! Each week campers will embark on trips to local parks, go on a short hikes to get outdoors and connect to nature, discover the Bay Area, and enjoy one big field trip. Campers will be engaged in their hands on, experiential lessons and become environmental stewards! By the end of each session, they will have built strong relationships with their peers, counselors and the natural world around them.

Sports Camp (Grades K-5)

For campers entering Grades K-2 & Grades 3-5

It’s not whether you win or lose, but how you play the game. At Sports Camp, we focus on creating a healthy attitude about sports, teams, and being active, while teaching the skills and strategies of each sport.

Camp swim lessons are available for all all Sports Camps, except for Splash Camps. Click here for more information. There is no Session 1 for Sports Camp.

SESSION 2: SPORTS SAMPLER: JUNE 24-28

Not sure what sport to play? Come try out our sports sampler week. Each day campers will be trying a new sport. They will focus on basketball, soccer, baseball, and flag football. On Friday they well put all their knowledge they learn throughout the week and play all the sports. Campers will learn about teamwork and sportsmanship.  

SESSION 3: SOCCER: JULY 1-3, 5

Goalll! Soccer has all the excitement of playing outdoor soccer with the added fun of making friends. Campers will learn how to dribble, pass, and shoot in an environment that encourages teamwork and sportsmanship. 

SESSION 4 (GRADES K-2): SPLASH WEEK: JULY 8-12

Dive into our indoor pool and play games like sharks and minnows! We will be joined by a YMCA swim instructor when we are in the water. Each day, campers will gain more confidence in the water through active play and celebrate the end of the week with a trip to a water park. This week is perfect for your little mermaid/man! Session 4 Splash Week is for grades K-2 only.

SESSION 4 (GRADES 3-5): FLAG FOOTBALL: JULY 8-12

From first downs to touch downs, this week is all about football! You are invited to our huddle to learn the rules of the game as well as the importance of a team dynamic. Session 4 Flag Football is for grades 3-5 only.

SESSION 5: BASKETBALL: JULY 15-19

Perfect your triple threat during the first basketball week of the summer! Campers will learn, practice and perfect their dribbling, passing, shooting and defensive techniques during drills and daily scrimmages.

SESSION 6 (GRADES K-2): SOCCER: JULY 22-26

Goalll! Soccer has all the excitement of playing outdoor soccer with the added fun of making friends. Campers will learn how to dribble, pass, and shoot in an environment that encourages teamwork and sportsmanship. Session 6 Soccer is for grades K-2 only.

Swing batter batter!. Campers will learn the rules and history of baseball. These weeks will be filled with ground balls, pop flys, pitching, throwing, catching and base running. They will also attend a Bay Area baseball game.

SESSION 8: BASKETBALL: AUGUST 5-9

Grab that offensive rebound and take another shot during our second week of basketball! The fundamentals like ball handling, defense and shooting are just some of the skills that will be practiced through drills and daily scrimmages. You do not need to have attended the previous Basketball session to sign up.

Specialty Camp (Grades K-5)

For campers entering Grades K-2 & Grades 3-5

At Specialty Camp, campers get to spend the week exploring specific areas of interest. Groups spend the day with specialists and experts in their fields through our partnerships with local organizations. Camp games and projects related to the weekly theme round out each session for the total Y Camp Experience. 

There is no Session 1 for Specialty Camp.

SESSION 2 (GRADES K-2): DANCE WEEK: JUNE 24-28

Find your rhythm during this week of introductory hip hop, ballet and more! Our experienced instructors will play your favorite tunes while you learn the basics of dance and creative movement. Families are invited to our annual Friday Showcase where campers will show off their new moves! No prior experience is needed.

SESSION 2 (GRADES 3-5): HORSE CAMP: JUNE 24-28

Giddyup cowgirls and boys! Our bus leaves at 8:00am for Camp Jones Gulch in La Honda where we will have our horsemanship introduction and instruction. After we learn about our new friends for the week, you can jump on their saddles for Western Riding lessons with real horse wranglers! Campers will also be learning how to care for the horses. Drop Off is no later than 8am. Pick up starts at 4:30pm.

SESSION 3: HARRY POTTER LEGO CAMP: JULY 1-3, 5

Explore the magic of Harry Potter using LEGO! Find Platform 9, build Hogwarts Express Train, work cooperatively with fellow campers to construct the mysterious Hogwarts Castle, and challenge the Hungarian Horntail Dragon. Travel to a world of wizardry and hone your magical skills while learning about Muggle (STEM) concepts. Note: NO CAMP on Thursday, July 4.

SESSION 4: SPY ACADEMY: JULY 8-12

From decoding messages to metal detectors and night vision, campers have the opportunity to check out spy tech equipment and take-home lots of gadgets! Step into the shoes of a detective as you uncover the science involved in evidence gathering and analysis! Figure out the science of forensics and reveal who is behind those crazy capers! Become a super spy and learn clever ways of performing tasks as we take a hands-on view of the science that spies use!

SESSION 5 (GRADES K-2): COASTAL CRITTERS (YRANGER CAMP): JULY 15-19

Feeling wild? Would you rather be a Red-Tailed Hawk soaring over the beach, a sneaky bobcat prowling under the brush, or a slippery seal sunning on a rock? Channel your inner animal as we discover the critters in the Marin Headlands and beyond! Coastal Critter campers will learn about the coastal food chain and animal adaptations while we play animal games, create crafts, tell stories and explore with new friends.

SESSION 5 (GRADES 3-5): SURVIVAL SKILLS (YRANGERS CAMP): JULY 15-19

Are you wild at heart? Do you have what it takes to rough it in the great outdoors? In Survival Skills, we will build the wilderness skills we need for successful and safe adventure in your national parks and beyond. Filter water, start a fire, and build a shelter - all without leaving a trace. Whether we’re up-close with poisonous plants or using a compass to find our way, this team is perfect for anyone who’s ready to band together to survive – and thrive! – in the wild.

SESSION 6: COOKING CAMP: JULY 22-26

Learn about exciting foods and cooking techniques with Chef EJ! Campers will spend each day rolling up their sleeves to prep, cook, and learn some amazing kid-friendly recipes. It’s an unforgettable week full of cooking, learning, food tasting, and FUN! Best of all, campers will bring home their tasty culinary dishes and easy-to-follow recipes to use at home.

SESSION 7: COOKING CAMP: JULY 29-AUGUST 2

Learn about exciting foods and cooking techniques with Chef EJ! Campers will spend each day rolling up their sleeves to prep, cook, and learn some amazing kid-friendly recipes. SESSION 8: STAR WARS LEGO CAMP: AUGUST 5-9

The Force Awakens in this introductory engineering course for young Jedi! Explore engineering principles by designing and building projects using LEGO materials such as X-Wings, R2 Units, Energy Catapults, Defense Turrets, and Settlements from a galaxy far, far away. Create motorized and architectural projects with imagination and engineering to defeat the Empire!

Movin' On: Teen Camp (Grades 6-8)

For campers entering grades 6-8

Calling all middle schoolers! Movin On has your ticket to a summer filled with exciting trips, daring activities, new experiences, and unforgettable memories. Join us for what will surely be an awesome adventure!

SESSION 1: BAY AREA ADVENTURES: JUNE 17-21

1 DAY OPTION AVAILABLE: JUNE 21 ONLY
So many adventures, so little time! We only have 1 week to explore as much as we can in the Bay Area. We will be learning about the history of San Francisco and San Mateo County through an interactive experience at the San Francisco Dungeon and a visit the San Mateo County History Museum.

SESSION 2: THINGAMAJIG: JUNE 24-28

STEM is everywhere. It shapes our everyday experiences and designs our future. It opens the doors to strategic thinking, creative expression and exciting careers. You’ll be inspired to create, learn and play through everything STEM. By the end of the week, you’ll have created an invention to showcase at the YMCA of San Francisco Invention Convention and compete for first place against every other Y Camp in San Francisco.

SESSION 3: SPLASH WEEK: JULY 1-3, 5

Cool down this hot San Mateo summer by hanging with Y Camp! We will be doing some classic water games using water balloons, creating a slip n’ slide and swimming at the Peninsula YMCA pool. We’ll celebrate the end of our wet and wild time together by going to a water park. Note: NO CAMP on Thursday, July 4.

SESSION 4: YDECATHLON: JULY 8-12

If you could win a gold medal in any Olympic sport, which sport would that be? You and your team will choose a country to represent and display proudly all week. We will be recreating the Olympic Games at a park, along with other sports. Everything culminates in a trip to Golf Land!

SESSION 5: YRANGERS: JULY 15-19

Are you ready to experience your backyard in a way you never imagined? Campers will become Extreme Adventurers as they explore the spaces that they have passed, but never truly seen and experienced. Campers will learn how to safely navigate these new spaces with a survival mindset and, whether on land or at sea, these adventurers are prepared for the epic adventures ahead. Activities could include challenge hikes, kayaking and more!

SESSION 6: GAME SHOW MANIA: JULY 22-26

Let’s make a deal, find out if you’re smarter than a 5th grader, and remember, you only have a minute to win it! This week is all about trivia, physical challenges, problem solving and team work. Each day, campers will participate in different game show challenges and relays to see who will become the Y-Bucks Millionaire. We will put our knowledge to the test at arcade Gama Ride in San Bruno.

SESSION 7: CAMP CHAMPS: JULY 29-AUGUST 2

Did you know that the YMCA helped create basketball and volleyball? Sports are a big deal at the YMCA and we are showing that off this week at camp. Show off your hoop skills during basketball or your agility during dodgeball. We’ll also be swimming, playing soccer and watching an A’s baseball game!

SESSION 8: TOP CHEF CHALLENGE: AUGUST 5-9

The kitchen is about to heat up with a Y Camp Top Chef Challenge! You’ll be given a daily budget to shop at Trader Joe’s for ingredients and make the most creative, healthy and delicious recipe possible. Campers and counselors will be the judges to vote and find the top chef of the day.

SESSION 9: BEST OF THE BEST: AUGUST 12-16

1 DAY OPTION AVAILABLE: AUGUST 12 ONLY
This week is all about you! We will be planning our games, activities and field trips with you to celebrate the best of the best of this summer! Before we send you off to school, we want to have one last hoorah at an all day trip to the San Jose Tech museum.

Counselor-in-Training (9-10)

For teens entering grades 9-10

Did you know that former First Lady Michelle Obama was once a camp counselor? Being a counselor means you gain skills that can be used in any type of job. As a Counselor-in-Training (CIT), you will gain leadership skills, learn to work as a team, and become a role-model in the community. The CIT program consists of two parts: a training week in which youth learn how to be Y camp counselors, and fieldwork where CITs help to run Y camp. 

 

CIT Training Week: June 24-28

To be a CIT at the Peninsula Family YMCA, you must complete this full week of training. During this time, you will learn what it takes to be a camp counselor, gain new leadership skills, get the basics of youth development theory, and become a pro at singing camp songs and leading games! Successful completion of the training week is required to participate in Field Work.

CIT Fieldwork: July 1-August 16

After completing training week, CITs will join camp sessions and be the leader they were trained to be! Teens will work alongside our amazing Camp Counselors and Jr. Counselors, assist in the daily operations of camp and receive valuable hands-on experience that will help build a strong foundation of any career. Community service hours can be earned while working in camp program. Every Friday, the CIT will have a Friday Fun day to end each week. Note: NO CAMP on Wednesday, July 4.

YBike Camp (2-8)

For campers entering Grades 2-3, Grades 4-5, and Grades 6-8

Take to the road by bicycle in our one week bike camps! Campers will learn safe riding practices on our yard and then advance to the calmer roads in San Mateo and the Bay Trail. From there, they will progress to longer rides to parks, museums and other destinations throughout San Mateo County. All equipment is provided. Campers will be provided helmets that they can keep at the end of the week.

Biking (Grades 2-3): June 24-28 & July 8-12

Grow your independence, confidence and teamwork in our one week bicycling camp. Campers will learn about and explore our city, starting with nearby parks and moving on to farther destinations. By road and by trail, learn to travel through the city and practice safe decision-making skills.

Swim Lessons at Camp (Grades K-5)

For campers enrolled in Traditional and Sports Camps only

Learn to swim while at Summer Camp! These lessons are open to beginners and advanced swimmers, and are a great add-on for camp. Counselors and/or swim instructors will escort campers to and from the pool. Please note that if you miss a lesson, make up lessons will not be provided. Camp Swim lessons are open only to registered campers entering K-5 Grades years old and are enrolled in Traditional and/or Sports camps only.

Note: There are no camp swim lessons during Session 3 due to the Independence Day holiday. Camp swim lessons are not available for Splash Week camps.
