At the Y, we offer fun for every child this summer, regardless of age, income and background. Plan your summer fun at the Y, and experience the impact we can make in your families life and community. We can't wait to be a part of your summer! Read below to explore our camp offerings and find the right camp for your child.

Summer Camp is open to all children entering grades K-10 in the Fall of 2018. Campers are separated by grade level groups to ensure our programming is developmentally appropriate and engaging. We cannot make exceptions to this, however all camper groups will interact throughout the camp program. This will ensure that your camper gets the best camp experience possible.

 

What group does my camper belong in?

Please register for sessions according to the grade your camper will enter in the Fall.

  • Discoverers: For campers entering grades K-1
  • Adventurers: For campers entering grades 2-3
  • Explorers: For campers entering grades 4-5
  • Movin' On: For campers entering grades 6-8
  • Counselors in Training (CIT): For teens entering grades 9-10.

Save some time and fill out the necessary forms beforehand. Join or renew as a Facility Member or Community Participant online at the Peninsula Family YMCA before registering for camp.

How to create or update your member profile

Click Here to Begin

  • Select “Create Account”.
  • Enter the required personal information when prompted.
  • Once signed, click “My Account” in the links at the top right of the page. Check to make sure your contact info is current.
  • If your information needs to be updated, click “Edit Contact Information” in the contact information profile box.
  • To update your payment method click to the “Billing Methods” section. Select the billing method and edit and update the information needed.

 

Scheduling payments

To add a payment method:

From your online account main screen, click on “Payment Method” and click “Add Credit Card” or “Add Bank Draft”. Once you have updated or added this info, click “Submit”.

To make or schedule a payment:

From your online account main screen click “My Balance”. Click either “Pay Fees Now” or Schedule A Payment For A Later Date” (Note: payments cannot be scheduled after their due date or rescheduled if they are past due).

When is the balance due for camp?

A non-refundable deposit of $35 per week is due at the time of registration. The remaining balance for each camp is due 14 days prior to the start date of camp. Failure to pay balances will result in the deposit and the registration being forfeited.

Financial Assistance

We strive to make Y Camp accessible to all. To the extent possible, financial assistance is available thanks to our generous donors who contribute to our Annual Giving Campaign. Financial Assistance forms are available online and at the membership desk. Please submit your FA forms by April 16. You will be notified by May 1 regarding your application. Families applying for FA will have a refundable deposit of $10 per week is due at the time of registration. Contact Kendra Zien at (650) 294-2627 for more information.

Payment Subsidies

Third party subsidies may be used to pay for program costs as approved by the agency. Please contact your eligibility worker to initiate the paperwork process, as well as Kendra Zien at (650) 294-2627to ensure proper enrollment in camp programs.

Traditional Camp (K-5)

For Discoverers (K-1), Adventurers (2-3), and Explorers (4-5)

Traditional Day Camp offers everything you think of when you think of summer camp: games, songs, swimming, field trips, arts & crafts, sports and whole lot of fun! Each week, campers will have a swim day at a pool or east bay lake, take field trips to local parks and take a short hike to get outdoors and connect to nature. Campers will be engaged in hands on, experiential lessons and become environmental stewards! By the end of each session, they will have built strong relationships with their peers, counselors and the natural world around them.

For campers entering grades K-5

It’s not whether you win or lose, but how you play the game. At Sports Camp, we focus on creating a healthy attitude about sports, teams, and being active, while teaching the skills and strategies of each sport.

Keep your eye on the Birdie! Try out a new and engaging sport in a fun environment. You will be able to improve your strokes, footwork and strategy for gameplay all while making new friends.

Jump into our Peninsula Family YMCA pool and play games like sharks and minnows or just splash around! Each day, campers will gain more confidence in the water through active play and celebrate the end of the week with a trip to Aqua Adventure Water Park in Fremont. Session 2: Basketball: June 25-29

Perfect your triple threat during the first basketball week of the summer! Campers will learn, practice and perfect their dribbling, passing, shooting and defensive techniques during drills and daily scrimmages. We will team up and have our own YMCA tournament on Friday for all families to cheer on their hoopster.

Session 3: Soccer: July 2-3, 5-6

Get ready to show off that fancy footwork! This camp is designed to teach and practice basic soccer skills and instill sportsmanship. Here is your chance to go for the gold while inspiring a love for running and being active. Campers will run, jump and throw in the Olympic-style events such as sprints, relays, long jumps and more. We will end the week with a YMCA track meet where campers will set individual and team records.

Session 7: Run the Bases: July 30-August 3

So many bases to steal, so little time! Baseball is not the only focus during this week of hits, kicks and tags. Campers will be playing Kickball and Capture the Flag and learning all about teamwork, cooperation and strategy. Root on our favorite team across the bay on the trip to watch the Oakland As play at the Coliseum.

Session 8: Basketball: August 6-10

Grab that offensive rebound and take another shot during our second week of basketball! The fundamentals like ball handling, defense and shooting are just some of the skills that will be practiced through drills and daily scrimmages. Come out and cheer for your hoopster during the Friday Tournament!

Session 9: Rugby: August 13-17

Have you always wanted to try rugby but never had the chance? Here it is! Join us in this introductory and safe week to learn the fundamentals and skills of the sport. By the end of the week, youâ??ll be able to define ruck, break down, backs and more!

Specialty Camp (K-5)

For campers entering grades K-5

At Specialty Camp, campers get to spend the week exploring specific areas of interest. Groups spend the day with specialists and experts in their fields through our partnerships with other organizations. Camp games and projects related to the weekly theme round out each session for the total YCamp Experience.

 

Session 1: Cooking Camp: June 18-22

Things are about to get tasty! Join us for a week of delicious and healthy creations led by a certified Holistic Nutritionist! Each camper will practice their safe kitchen techniques while they saute, bake and boil their fresh ingredients. By the end of the week, campers will have their own YCamp Cookbook as well as memories of a lifetime!

Session 2 (Grades K-2): Art Week: June 25-29

Let your creativity shine during this week of artistic expression. Campers will sample different styles of art including painting, drawing, sculpting and more! Each medium will have a different lesson that goes along with their project so campers feel connected to their creations!

Session 2 (Grades 3-5): Horseback Riding: June 25-29

Giddyup cowgirls and boys! Our bus leaves at 8:00am for Camp Jones Gulch in La Honda where we will have our horsemanship introduction and instruction. After we learn about our new friends for the week, you can jump on their saddles for Western Riding lessons with real horse wranglers!

Session 3: LEGO Ninjaneering: July 2-3, 5-6

Enter the world of Ninjago and become an apprentice Ninjaneer! Learn the way of Spinjitzu, build the Fire Temple, race Skull Trucks, and encounter the mighty Dragon! Imagine and build unique and fun LEGO projects with the guidance of an experienced Play-Well instructor while exploring the fantasy world of Ninjago. Note: NO CAMP on Wednesday, July 4

Session 4: Thingamajig Inventors: July 9-13

STEM is everywhere. It shapes our everyday experiences and designs our future. It opens the doors to strategic thinking, creative expression and exciting careers. You will be inspired to create, learn and play through everything STEM. By the end of the week, you will have created an invention to showcase at the YMCA of San Francisco Invention Convention and compete for first place against every other Y Camp in San Francisco.

Session 5: Spy Academy: July 16-20

From decoding messages to metal detectors and night vision, campers have the opportunity to check out spy tech equipment and take-home lots of gadgets. Step into the shoes of a detective as you uncover the science involved in evidence gathering and analysis. Figure out the science of forensics and reveal who is behind those crazy capers! Become a super spy and learn clever ways of performing tasks as we take a hands-on view of the science that spies use.

Session 6 (Grades K-2): Dance Week: July 23-27

Find your rhythm during this week of introductory hip hop, ballet and more! Our experienced instructors will play your favorite tunes while you learn the basics of dance and creative movement. Families are invited to our annual Friday Showcase where campers will show off their new moves! No prior experience is needed.

Session 6 (Grades 3-5): Horseback Riding: July 23-27

 In case you missed our week in June, here's another chance to jump on that saddle! The bus leaves for Camp Jones Gulch in La Honda at 8:00am to meet our horseback riding instructors. Campers will get horsemanship instruction and Western Riding lessons.

Session 7 (Grades K-2): Cooking Camp: July 30-August 3

Here is another chance to make masterpiece in the kitchen! Our certified Holistic Nutritionist has planned some healthy and delicious recipes for you to create. You will learn basic cooking skills and all about safety in the kitchen and leave the week with your very own YCamp Cookbook!

Session 7 (Grades 3-5): Survival Skills, Y-Rangers Camp: July 30-August 3

 Do you have what it takes to survive in the great outdoors? Campers will discover the finer points of preparing for an outdoor adventure, developing orienteering skills using a map and compass, and learning about plant and animal identification. We will also cover variety of useful camping skills including building a fire, making camp shelters, knot tying, and campfire cooking.

Session 8: LEGO Jedi Engineering: August 6-10

The Force Awakens in this introductory engineering course for young Jedi! Explore engineering principles by designing and building projects using LEGO materials such as X-Wings, R2 Units, Energy Catapults, Defense Turrets, and Settlements from a galaxy far, far away. Create motorized and architectural projects with imagination and engineering to defeat the Empire!

Session 9 (Grades K-1): Outdoor Adventures, Y-Rangers Camp: August 13-17

Campers become Eco-Explorers as they turn into outdoor detectives, investigating their natural surroundings. Campers will take walks through the forest, grassy hillsides, coastal dune scrubs, and sandy beaches of the Bay Area to explore our local wildlife and geography. Activities include bug safaris, nature hunts, create-a-critter-from-litter, nature games, Rodeo Beach Lagoon exploration and more!

Session 9 (Grades 3-5): Cooking Camp: August 13-17

Last call for future chefs! We are ending the summer with some sweet and savory memories. Create some delicious and healthy recipes with our certified Holistic Nutritionist and start the school year with your very own YCamp Cookbook.

Movin' On: Teen Camp (6-8)

For campers entering grades 6-8

Calling all middle schoolers! Movin On has your ticket to a summer filled with exciting trips, daring activities, new experiences, and unforgettable memories. Join us for what will surely be an awesome adventure!

 

Session 1: Bay Area Adventures: June 18-22

So many adventures, so little time! We only have 1 week to explore as much as we can in the Bay Area. We will be learning about the history of San Francisco and San Mateo County through an interactive experience at the San Francisco Dungeon and a visit the San Mateo County History Museum.

Cool down this hot San Mateo summer by hanging with Y Camp! We will be doing some classic water games using water balloons, creating a slip n slide and swimming at the Peninsula YMCA pool. We will celebrate the end of our wet and wild time together by going to Aqua Adventure Water Park in Fremont.

Session 3: Rollin' On: July 2-3, 5-6

Rides in this camp take campers further; with more time spent on-bike and more mileage logged every day. Campers will have the opportunity to help plan and lead rides that will take them through many of the citys neighborhoods, discovering new routes and trails that traverse the city and beyond. All equipment is provided and no experience is needed. Campers can keep the provided helmets at the end of the week. Note: NO CAMP on Wednesday, July 4.

Did you know that the YMCA helped create basketball and volleyball? Sports are a big deal at the YMCA and we are showing that off this week at camp. Show off your hoop skills during basketball or your agility during dodgeball. We'll also be swimming, playing soccer and getting strikes at BelMateo Bowl!

Session 6: Wacky Robots & Widgets: July 23-27

Whether your camper loves to build things or destroy them, this week of camp includes lots of both! Junior Mad Science engineers design and build structures using simple tools and their imaginations. Campers will discover how different machines are used in our daily lives, and will learn the science of robotics by designing machines using pulleys, wedges, screws and levers and have fun learning how catapults work!

Session 7: Game Show Mania: July 30-August 3

Let's make a deal or find out if you're smarter than a 5th grader but remember, you only have a minute to win it! This week is all about trivia, physical challenges, problem solving and team work. Each day, campers will participate in different game show challenges and relays to see who will become the Y-Bucks Millionaire. We will put our knowledge to the test at the arcade, Gama Ride in San Bruno.

Session 8: Top Chef Challenge: August 6-10

The kitchen is about to heat up with a Y Camp Top Chef Challenge! You'll be given a daily budget to shop at Trader Joes for ingredients and make the most creative, healthy and delicious recipe possible. Campers and counselors will be the judges to vote and find the top chef of the day.

Session 9: Wilderness Explorers: August 13-17

Session 9 (1 Day Option): August 13 only

Gain some survival skills and connect to nature during this week of wilderness exploration. We will use the environment around us to set up tents and test your instincts to survive a disaster... like a zombie apocalypse! We will take a trip to Adventure Playground in Berkeley to ride a zip line and build a fort or shelter!

Counselor-in-Training (9-10)

For teens entering grades 9-10

Did you know that former First Lady Michelle Obama was once a camp counselor? Being a counselor means you gain skills that can be used in any type of job. As a Counselor-in-Training (CIT), you will gain leadership skills, learn to work as a team, and become a role-model in the community. The CIT program consists of two parts: a training week in which youth learn how to be Y camp counselors, and fieldwork where CITs help to run Y camp. 

 

CIT Training Week: June 25-29

To be a CIT at the Peninsula Family YMCA, you must complete this full week of training. During this time, you will learn what it takes to be a camp counselor, gain new leadership skills, get the basics of youth development theory and become a pro at singing camp songs and leading games!

CIT Fieldwork: July 2-August 17

After completing the training week, CITs can join camp sessions and be the leader you were trained to be! You will work alongside our amazing Camp Counselors and Jr. Counselors, assist in the daily operations of camp and receive valuable on-the-job experience that will help build a strong foundation for any career. You can also earn community service hours as you have fun working in program. Note: NO CAMP on Wednesday, July 4.

YBike Camp (2-5)

For campers entering grades 2-5

Take to the road by bicycle in our one week bike camps! Campers will learn safe riding practices on our yard and then advance to the calmer roads in San Mateo and the Bay Trail. From there, they will progress to longer rides to parks, museums and other destinations throughout San Mateo County. All equipment is provided.

 

Intro to Biking (Grades 2-3):

Intro to Biking (Grades 4-5):

Session 6: July 23-27 & Session 7: July 30-August 3

Never rode a bike before? This camp is designed for youth who are just learning to bike, or who have not yet mastered riding on two wheels. The daily progress is gradual and steady, with the goal of achieving basic competence in balance and bike control. Campers may have the opportunity to visit nearby parks and destinations.

Intermediate Biking (Grades 2-3):

For those campers who have mastered pedaling and balance. Intermediate Biking camp introduces safe decision making and route navigation. Campers will have the opportunity to visit nearby parks and destinations.

Swim Lessons at Camp (K-5)

For campers enrolled in Traditional and Sports Camps only

Learn to swim while at Summer Camp! These lessons are open to beginners and advanced swimmers, and are a great add-on for camp. Counselors and/or swim instructors will escort campers to and from the pool. Please note that if you miss a lesson, make up lessons will not be provided. Camp Swim lessons are open only to registered campers in K-5 Grades years old enrolled in Traditional or Sports camps only.

Swim lessons are Mondays & Thursdays from 10:00 -10:30am.
