2020 Summer Camp

Welcome to the best summer ever!

At the Y, we offer fun for every child this summer, regardless of age, income and background. Plan your summer fun at the Y, and experience the impact we can make in your families life and community. We can't wait to be a part of your summer! Read below to explore our camp offerings and find the right camp for your child. Summer Camp is open to all children entering grades K-10 in the Fall of 2020. 

 

What group does my camper belong in?

Camper Age Groups

  • Traditional Camp (Discoverers): For campers entering grades K-5
  • Traditional Camp (Adventurers): For campers entering grades 2-3
  • Traditional Camp (Explorers): For campers entering grades 4-5
  • Traditional Camp (Movin' On): For campers entering grades 6-8
  • Specialty Camp: For campers entering grades K-2 and grades 3-5
  • Sports Camp: For campers entering grades K-2 and grades 3-5
  • YBike Camp: For campers entering grades 2-3, 4-5, 6-8
  • Counselors in Training (CIT): For teens entering grades 9-10

Please register for sessions according to the grade your camper will enter in the Fall. Campers are separated by grade level groups to ensure our programming is developmentally appropriate and engaging. We cannot make exceptions to this, however all camper groups will interact throughout the camp program.

All Campers must be registered as YMCA Members. Join or renew as a Facility Member or Community Participant online at the Peninsula Family YMCA before registering for camp. 

Facility Memberships
A Facility Membership at the Peninsula Family YMCA offers many benefits for the whole family. In addition to a lower registration fee for camp, Facility Members have full use of the workout facilities, basketball gym, pool and sauna, YKids childcare, and lower rates for fee based programs such as swim lessons and youth sports

Community Participants
Registering as a Community Participant is completely free for all members in the household, and allows registration for fee based programs, including all camps, swim lessons, and youth programs.

How to create or update your member profile

Click Here to Begin

  • Select “Create Account”.
  • Enter the required personal information when prompted.
  • Once signed, click “My Account” in the links at the top right of the page. Check to make sure your contact info is current.
  • If your information needs to be updated, click “Edit Contact Information” in the contact information profile box.
  • To update your payment method click to the “Billing Methods” section. Select the billing method and edit and update the information needed.

Scheduling Your Payments

To add a payment method:

From your online account main screen, click on “Payment Method” and click “Add Credit Card” or “Add Bank Draft”. Once you have updated or added this info, click “Submit”.

To make or schedule a payment:

From your online account main screen click “My Balance”. Click either “Pay Fees Now” or Schedule A Payment For A Later Date” (Note: payments cannot be scheduled after their due date or rescheduled if they are past due).

When is the balance due for camp?

A non-refundable deposit of $35 per week is due at the time of registration. The remaining balance for each camp is due 14 days prior to the start date of camp. Failure to pay balances will result in the deposit and the registration being forfeited.

Financial Assistance

Financial Assistance

We strive to make Y Camp accessible to all. To the extent possible, financial assistance is available thanks to our generous donors who contribute to our Annual Giving Campaign. To apply for Financial Assistance, complete and send your Registration form and Financial Assistance form (Español) by April 15 to Kendra Zien. You will be notified by May 6 regarding your application. Families applying for FA will have a refundable deposit of $10 per week is due at the time of registration. Contact Kendra Zien at (650) 294-2627 for more information.

Payment Subsidies

Third party subsidies may be used to pay for program costs as approved by the agency. Please contact your eligibility worker to initiate the paperwork process, as well as Kendra Zien at (650) 294-2627 to ensure proper enrollment in camp programs.

Traditional Camp (Grades K-5)

For Discoverers (K-1), Adventurers (2-3), and Explorers (4-5)

Traditional Day Camp offers everything you think of when you think of camp: games, songs, swimming, field trips, arts & crafts, sports, and whole lot of fun! Each week campers will embark on trips to local parks, go on a short hikes to get outdoors and connect to nature, discover the Bay Area, and enjoy one big field trip. Campers will be engaged in their hands on, experiential lessons and become environmental stewards! By the end of each session, they will have built strong relationships with their peers, counselors and the natural world around them.

Sports Camp (Grades K-5)

For campers entering Grades K-2 & Grades 3-5

It’s not whether you win or lose, but how you play the game. At Sports Camp, we focus on creating a healthy attitude about sports, teams, and being active, while teaching the skills and strategies of each sport.

SESSION 1: SPORTS SAMPLER (GRADES K-2 & 3-5): JUNE 15-19

Not sure what sport to play? Come try out our sports sampler week. Each day campers will be trying a new sport. They will focus on basketball, soccer, baseball, and flag football. On Friday they well put all their knowledge they learn throughout the week and play all the sports. Campers will learn about teamwork and sportsmanship.  

SESSION 2: SPLASH WEEK (Grades K-2) AND FLAG FOOTBALL (Grades 3-5): JUNE 22-26

Dive into our indoor pool and play games like sharks and minnows! We will be joined by a YMCA swim instructor when we are in the water. Each day, campers will gain more confidence in the water through active play and celebrate the end of the week with a trip to a water park. This week is perfect for your little mermaid/man! Flag Football: From first downs to touch downs, this week is all about football! You are invited to our huddle to learn the rules of the game as well as the importance of team.  

SESSION 3: SOCCER (GRADES K-2 & 3-5): JUNE 29- JULY 3

Goalll! Soccer has all the excitement of playing outdoor soccer with the added fun of making friends. Campers will learn how to dribble, pass, and shoot in an environment that encourages teamwork and sportsmanship. 

SESSION 4 (GRADES K-2 & 3-5): BASKETBALL: JULY 6-10

Perfect your triple threat during the first basketball week of the summer! Campers will learn, practice and perfect their dribbling, passing, shooting and defensive techniques during drills and daily scrimmages.

SESSION 5: DANCE (GRADES K-2) AND SPLASH WEEK (GRADES 3-5): JULY 13-17

Find your rhythm during this week of introductory hip hop, ballet and more! Our experienced instructors will play your favorite tunes while you learn the basics of dance and creative movement. Families are invited to our annual Friday Showcase (2:30pm) where campers will show off their new moves! No prior experience is needed. Splash Week: Each day, campers will gain more confidence in the water through active play and celebrate the end of the week with a trip to a water park. 

SESSION 6: SPLASH WEEK AND HORSE CAMP: JULY 20-24

Dive into our indoor pool and play games like sharks and minnows! We will be joined by a YMCA swim instructor when we are in the water. Each day, campers will gain more confidence in the water through active play and celebrate the end of the week with a trip to a water park. This week is perfect for your little mermaid/man! Horse Camp: Giddyup cowgirls and boys! Our bus leaves at 8:00am for Camp Jones Gulch in La Honda where we will have our horsemanship introduction and instruction. After we learn about our new friends for the week, you can jump on their saddles for Western 
Riding lessons with real horse wranglers! Campers will also be learning how to care for the horses. Drop Off is no later than 8am. Pick up starts at 4:30pm. 

SESSION 7: BASEBALL (GRADES K-2 & 3-5): JULY 27-31

Campers learn basic skills through interactive drills. Baseball teaches players of all abilities the fundamentals of catching, throwing, hitting and base running in a fun positive environment. Highlight field trip will be going to an Oakland A’s baseball game. Be sure to bring your glove with your name on it.

SESSION 8: ROCK CLIMBING (GRADES K-2 & 3-5): AUGUST 3-7

This week-long adventure of personal strength and growth is great for campers. Campers will climb at Planet Granite in Belmont. Certified balayers and instructors will teach the campers techniques, strategy and endurance, all with strong emphasis on safety. Additional wavier required.  

SESSION 9: TRACK AND FIELD (GRADES k-2 & 3-5): AUGUST 10-14

Here is your chance to go for the gold while inspiring a love for running and being active. Campers will run, jump and throw in the Olympic-style events such as sprints, relays, long jump and more.

Specialty Camp (Grades K-5)

For campers entering Grades K-2 & Grades 3-5

At Specialty Camp, campers get to spend the week exploring specific areas of interest. Groups spend the day with specialists and experts in their fields through our partnerships with local organizations. Camp games and projects related to the weekly theme round out each session for the total Y Camp Experience. 

There is no Session 1 for Specialty Camp.

SESSION 1: ART WEEK (GRADES K-2 & 3-5): JUNE 15-19

Get ready for an artistic adventure! In this camp we challenge the budding artist through innovative activities in painting, sculpting and drawing. Your child will spend each day learning the fundamentals and techniques. Campers will also have a chance to proudly put their creations on display at an Art Gala Friday, June 19th. 

SESSION 2: LEGO SUPERHEROES (GRADES K-2 & 3-5): JUNE 22-26

Save the world with LEGO® Superheroes! Build the hideout and vehicles of your favorite superheroes, and learn what not only makes them Superheroes but Superhero Engineers. An experience Play-Well instructor guides young heroes, as they design, build, and save a city where ingenuity and imagination can solve any conflict. Vendor instruction begins at 9:30 am and includes 3 hours of instruction a day.

SESSION 3: SPACE ACADEMY (GRADES K-2 & 3-5): JUNE 29-JULY 3

Mad Science and NASA have teamed up to bring you the excitement and wonder of space in this new voyage of discovery. Explore the farthest reaches of our solar system. Probe the mysteries of meteors and bounce around satellite light as you learn about space phenomena! 

SESSION 4: COASTAL CRITTERS YRANGER CAMP & SURVIVAL SKILLS YRANGER CAMP (GRADES K-2 & 3-5): JULY 6-10

Feeling wild? Would you rather be a Red-Tailed Hawk soaring over the beach, a sneaky bobcat prowling under the brush, or a slippery seal sunning on a rock? Channel your inner animal as we discover the critters in the Marin Headlands and beyond! Coastal Critter campers will learn about the coastal food chain and animal adaptations while we play animal games, create crafts, tell stories and explore with new friends. Survival Skills Y Rangers Camp: Are you wild at heart? Do you have what it takes to rough it in the great outdoors? In Survival Skills, we will build the wilderness skills we need for successful and safe adventure in your national parks and beyond. Filter water, start a fire, and build a shelter - all without leaving a trace.
Whether we’re up-close with poisonous plants or using a compass to find our way, this team is perfect for anyone who’s ready to band together to survive – and thrive! – in the wild.

SESSION 5: SPACE ACADEMY (GRADES K-2 & 3-5): JULY 13-JULY 17

From decoding messages to metal detectors and night vision, campers have the opportunity to check out spy tech equipment and take-home lots of gadgets! Step into the shoes of a detective as you uncover the science involved in evidence gathering and analysis! Figure out the science of forensics and reveal who is behind those crazy capers! Become a super spy and learn clever ways of performing tasks as we take a hands-on view of the science that spies use! 

SESSION 6: LEGO NINJANEERING (GRADES K-2) & INCREDIFLIX (GRADES 3-5): JULY 20-24

Enter the world of LEGO® Ninjago and become a Ninjaneer. Learn the way of Spinjitzu, build the Fire Temple, race Skull Trucks, and tame the Ice Dragon. Imagine and build unique and fun projects with the guidance of an experienced Play-Well instructor while exploring the fantasy world of Ninjago. Campers will learn real world concepts in physics, engineering and architecture. Incrediflix: Campers will be guided through the movie making process from brainstorming, storyboarding, creating sets, creating characters, filming, doing voice-overs, acting, directing, and more! Campers will receive a copy of their finished movie. 

SESSION 7: JEDI LEGO CAMP (GRADES K-2 & 3-5): JULY 27-31

The Force Awakens in this introductory engineering course for young Jedi! Explore engineering principles by designing and building projects using LEGO® materials such as X-Wings, R2 Units, Energy Catapults, Defense Turrets, and Settlements from a galaxy far, far away. Create motorized and architectural projects with imagination and engineering to defeat the Empire! 

SESSION 8: YMAKER CAMP (GRADES K-2 & 3-5): AUGUST 3-7

Youth will get hands-on experience with basic woodworking and crafting tools while they build and make whatever they can dream up. After morning safety exercises, campers enjoy a youth-led camp where projects are determined by the youth. Safety equipment is provided and mandatory during building time.

SESSION 9: BAY AREA ADVENTURE JR (GRADES K-2 & 3-5).: AUGUST 10-14

So many adventures, so little time! We only have 1 week to explore as much as we can in the Bay Area. We will be learning about the history of San Francisco and San Mateo County through an interactive experience at the San Francisco Dungeon and a visit the San Mateo County History Museum.

Movin' On: Teen Camp (Grades 6-8)

For campers entering grades 6-8

Calling all middle schoolers! Movin On has your ticket to a summer filled with exciting trips, daring activities, new experiences, and unforgettable memories. Join us for what will surely be an awesome adventure!

SESSION 1: TEEN SUMMER STARTER: JUNE 15-19

1 DAY OPTION AVAILABLE: JUNE 18 ONLY
Start of summer right with trips to Pier 39, scavenger hunts, a beach day and more!​

SESSION 2: THINGAMAJIG: JUNE 22-26

STEM is everywhere. It shapes our everyday experiences and designs our future. It opens the doors to strategic thinking, creative expression and exciting careers. You’ll be inspired to create, learn and play through everything STEM. By the end of the week, you’ll have created an invention to showcase at the YMCA of San Francisco Invention Convention and compete for first place against every other Y Camp in San Francisco.

SESSION 3: SUMMER SPORTS: JUNE 29- JULY 3

Spend the week trying out popular sports including rock climbing, laser tag, an A’s baseball game and bowling and more. Other fun activities included. 


SESSION 4: GAME SHOW MANIA: JULY 6-10

Let’s make a deal, find out if you’re smarter than a 5th grader, and remember, you only have a minute to win it! This week is all about trivia, physical challenges, problem solving and team work. We will also have About Face come out to lead a Social Media . Each day, campers will participate in different game show challenges and relays to see who will become the Y-Bucks Millionaire. We will put our knowledge to the test at arcade Gama Ride in San Bruno. 

SESSION 5: YRANGERS: JULY 13-17

Are you ready to experience your backyard in a way you never imagined? Campers will become Extreme Adventurers as they explore the spaces that they have passed, but never truly seen and experienced. 
Campers will learn how to safely navigate these new spaces with a survival mindset and, whether on land or at sea, these adventurers are prepared for the epic adventures ahead.  Activities could include challenge hikes, kayaking and more!

SESSION 6: ACTION ATTRACTION: JULY 20-24

If your child loves going to amusement parks, we’ll spend the week visiting Great America, Raging Waters and the Boardwalk. Join us on an adventure filled with non-stop thrills and excitement.

SESSION 7: LASER TAG: JULY 27-JULY 31

Let’s have a blast with friends. Pick your teams and get together for some fun laser tag this summer. 

SESSION 8: GO CARTS: AUGUST 3-7

In this go Kart adventure we will visit go kart locations throughout this action-packed week. 

SESSION 9: BAY AREA ADVENTURES: AUGUST 10-14

1 DAY OPTION AVAILABLE: AUGUST 10 ONLY
Your teen will explore a variety of the Bay Area’s treasures and historic landmarks. Adventures include the following destinations Aquarium by the Bay, Pier 39 and more!

Counselor-in-Training (9-10)

For teens entering grades 9-10

Did you know that former First Lady Michelle Obama was once a camp counselor? Being a counselor means you gain skills that can be used in any type of job. As a Counselor-in-Training (CIT), you will gain leadership skills, learn to work as a team, and become a role-model in the community. The CIT program consists of two parts: a training week in which youth learn how to be Y camp counselors, and fieldwork where CITs help to run Y camp. 

 

CIT Training Week: June 22-26

To be a CIT at the Peninsula Family YMCA, you must complete this full week of training. During this time, you will learn what it takes to be a camp counselor, gain new leadership skills, get the basics of youth development theory, and become a pro at singing camp songs and leading games! Successful completion of the training week is required to participate in Field Work.

CIT Fieldwork: June 26-August 14

After completing training week, CITs will join camp sessions and be the leader they were trained to be! Teens will work alongside our amazing Camp Counselors and Jr. Counselors, assist in the daily operations of camp and receive valuable hands-on experience that will help build a strong foundation of any career. Community service hours can be earned while working in camp program. Every Friday, the CIT will have a Friday Fun day to end each week. Note: NO CAMP on Wednesday, July 4.

YBike Camp (2-8)

For campers entering Grades 2-3, Grades 4-5, and Grades 6-8 

Take to the road by bicycle in our one week bike camps! Campers will learn safe riding practices on our yard and then advance to the calmer roads in San Mateo and the Bay Trail. From there, they will progress to longer rides to parks, museums and other destinations throughout San Mateo County. All equipment is provided. Campers will be provided helmets that they can keep at the end of the week.

Biking (Grades 2-3): July 6-10 & July 27-31 Session 4 + Session 7

Grow your independence, confidence and teamwork in our one week bicycling camp. Campers will learn about and explore our city, starting with nearby parks and moving on to farther destinations. By road and by trail, learn to travel through the city and practice safe decision-making skills.

Biking (Grades 4-5): July 13-17 & August 3-7 Session 5 + Session 8

Grow your independence, confidence and teamwork in our one week bicycling camp. Campers will learn about and explore our city, starting with nearby parks and moving on to farther destinations. By road and by trail, learn to travel through the city and practice safe decision-making skills. The emphasis will be on safe decision-making and bicycle route navigation.

Rollin' On Teens (Grades 6-8): July 20-July 24 Session 6

Grow your independence, confidence and teamwork in our one week bicycling camp. Campers will learn about and explore our city, starting with nearby parks and moving on to farther destinations. By road and by trail, learn to travel through the city and practice safe decision-making skills. The emphasis will be on safe decision-making and bicycle route navigation.

No Swim Lessons at Camp, but Swim Sessions are Available (Grades K-5)

For campers who sign up for swim sessions

Learn to swim while at Summer Camp! These lessons are open to beginners and advanced swimmers, and are a great add-on for camp. Counselors and/or swim instructors will escort campers to and from the pool. Please note that if you miss a lesson, make up lessons will not be provided. 

There will be no camp specific swim lessons during Summer Camp. Instead, camp staff will escort people who pay for group lessons. This means there is no registration ahead of time for these classes. Register once registration for that session opens.
