Open Water Swim Lessons

Open Water Training is a program offered to all of the YMCA community.* The trainings are held at various beach locations, with Coach Mohammad, who will teach participants the skills necessary to swim safely in open water. The Open Water training will build confidence and motivates swimmers to consider participating in one of our Open Water events such as the Alcatraz Swim or the TI2Y Open Water Challenge.

Lessons typically meet on Sundays, unless otherwise noted, and two hours in length.  Lessons encompass the fundamentals of open water swimming including stroke form, sighting, navigation, and safety as well as general knowledge of the Bay’s tides and currents. Swimmers will need to have their own equipment including; wetsuit, cap, goggles, and towel.

For more information, please contact Head Coach, Mohammad Asaad.

*You must be a Facility or Community Member to participate. For more information contact Member Service at (415) 957-9622 or follow the link to our Join page.
