About Aquatics

From Youth Swim Team to adult Group Swim lessons, Stonestown Family YMCA Aquatics has something for everyone! Our Aquatics Program promotes a healthy and active lifestyle for all, while giving members and youth a place to practice low impact exercises in a safe and positive environment. 

Safety Around Water

Join us for 8 lessons of enriching children’s lives through water safety skills, basic swim instruction, and fun games and activities. This program is intended for youth ages 3-12 years who have little or no exposure to the water. Pre-registration is required to qualify for this program between September 8-27, 2018.

Teaching youth and families to be safe in and around water 

• The curriculum covered is very basic and is intended for those with little to no exposure to the water. Basic breath control, floating, treading, and safety strokes will be covered. This is not a traditional swim lesson, but is meant to help strengthen water safety.

• No membership is needed to participate and the program is free of charge.

• Lessons are held at the Stonestown​ Family YMCA indoor pool and are 30 minutes long; 10 minute out of water lesson and 20 minutes in water.

• Volunteers are utilized as instructor assistants.

• Youth ages 3 and up must be potty trained

• If currently enrolled in group swim lessons at the Stonestown Family YMCA, participants cannot be higher than Level 1

Registration is open September 8-27.
Packets must be dropped off at the Stonestown Family YMCA by Thursday, September 27, 2018.

Group Swim Lesson Stage Descriptions

Parent Child Classes  6 Months - 3 Years

Level A: Water Discovery  6-18 months
Level B: Water Exploration  18-36 months

Swimming is a necessary life skill and it is never too early to start your child’s development. Our Parent Child Classes are designed for infants and their parents. This program focuses on water orientation, acclimation, and introduces basic skills necessary to build strong, lifelong swimmers.

Preschool Classes  3-5 Years

Level 1: Water Acclimation

Increases comfort with underwater exploration and introduces basic self-rescue skills performed with assistance.

Level 2: Water Movement

Encourages forward movement in water and basic self-rescue skills performed independently.

Level 3: Water Stamina 

Develops intermediate self-rescue skills performed at longer distances than in previous stages.

Level 4: Stroke Introduction

Introduces basic stroke technique in front crawl and back crawl and reinforces water safety through treading water and elementary backstroke.

Youth Classes | 6-12 Years

Level 1: Water Acclimation

Refines stroke technique on all major competitive strokes and encourages swimming as part of a healthy lifestyle.

First Mates (Pre-Swim)

First Mates  |  6-18 Years

First Mates (Pre-Swim Team) is a preliminary swim team level that offers swimmers the coaching and experience to eventually graduate to the Pirates Swim Team. Coaches will work with swimmers to develop technique, build endurance, and provide the opportunity for swimmers to participate in local swim meets. Participants must be able to perform at a level of Fish. First Mates’ practices will be scheduled in conjunction with current group swim lessons. Fees are based upon number of classes per session.

Pirates Swim Team

Pirates Swim Team

We offer a year-round competitive youth swim team at the Stonestown Family YMCA. There is an emphasis on endurance, swim technique, leadership and team building. Participants are registered through USA Swimming ($70 fee) and all coaching staff are USA Swimming certified. Participants must be able to swim 50 meters continuously in each of the four competitive strokes. 

Blue Group

Monday and Wednesday: 4:30pm - 5:30pm
Friday: 6:45pm - 8:30pm Sunday: 4:00 - 5:45pm
Facility Member - $151 per month
Community Participant - $189 per month 

Red Group

Tuesday and Thursday: 4:25pm - 5:40pm

Interested members should contact R’Nel Ocampo  to schedule a try out and be placed into the proper skill level of Blue, Red, Green or Yellow group. During a try-out, stroke competency will be judged. Upon completion, the swimmer and parent will be advised which group is appropriate.

Master's Swim

Under the supervision of a USMS coach, you will receive guided work outs and technique tips to help you develop your swimming skills and challenge you in new ways. Geared towards adults 18+ who know all four strokes looking to embrace new ways of using swimming as a means of a healthy lifestyle.

Facility Member: $25/month

Private/Semi-Private Swim Lessons

We offer private (one-on-one) as well as semi-private (two participants) swim lessons for members of all ages and skill levels.  Lessons may be customized to suit the needs of each swimmer.  Lessons are thirty minutes in length.

Request forms can be found at the Membership Desk at the branch or downloaded - please complete a form in advance as there is a high demand for lessons.  Completed request forms and questions can be submitted via email to Joyce Tang or by dropping them off at our Welcome Center.

CPR/AED Certification

The Stonestown Family YMCA, in conjunction with ASHI, hosts CPR/AED and First Aid Certification courses. Classes are offered the second Saturday of the Month and open to all YMCA members.
