Uplifting Voices in 2021

By wpdev

Coretta Scott King once said, MLK Day ”… must be substantive as well as symbolic. It must be more than a day of celebration…Let this holiday be a day of reflection, a day of teaching nonviolent philosophy and strategy, a day of getting involved in nonviolent action for social and economic progress.”

With this intention in mind, I would like to take this MLK Day to establish a continued practice of listening to our African American colleagues and neighbors. Through the YMCA of San Francisco’s African American Resource Network (AARN), we able to share voices of inspiration, celebration, and their vision for the ‘Dreams’ Dr. King presented to us all decades ago.  The YMCA of San Francisco remains committed to becoming an anti-racist organization. We recognize the experiences our African American employees, especially the challenges they have endured over the past year.

Please join me in acknowledging these powerful voices from community leaders of change so that we may listen, learn and heal together.
