About the Job
Under the supervision of the YBike Associate Director, this position is responsible for leading bicycle education programs with youth and families at program sites across San Francisco. YBike Program Leaders will support the YBike team in running after-school bike clubs, in-school P.E. programs, and community- and city-wide bicycle events for youth and families across San Francisco. All programs should be administered in a manner consistent with YMCA goals and policies.
This position’s hours may vary in accordance with the SFUSD calendar, program needs, and weekend excursions and events.
Minimum Qualifications
- 18+ years old
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Available weekdays from 2:00 p.m. to 6:30 pm or weekends
- Ability to ride bikes
- Strong working knowledge of bike safety rules
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Experience with providing instructions to large groups
- Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency situation
- Must be an independent worker and able to multi-task
- Adept at working on a team
- Maintain a flexible and positive attitude
- A passion for social justice and knowledge of the challenges faced by low-income San Francisco residents
- Proven ability to work with people from a variety of different ethnic, socio-economic, educational, religious, sexual and generational backgrounds
- YMCA approved CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and YMCA Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date
- TB test clearance required
Preferred Skills & Abilities
- 21+ years old
- Available some weekends and some weekday mornings
- Experience in risk management and emergency response
- Experience working in youth bike education programs or similar
- Knowledge, familiarity, and experience working in or with schools within SFUSD
- Bilingual language skills in Cantonese, Mandarin, Spanish, and/or Arabic
- Ability to repair bikes
- League Certified Instructor from the League of American Bicyclists
