About the Job
Under the direction of the Teens Programs Director, the Teens Program Leader is responsible for developing and facilitating enrichment programs, providing academic support to program participants, and strengthening the program’s connection with students, families, and community partners. As a team player, the Teens Program Leader will build and maintain strong and productive relationships with students, school staff, parents, the YMCA, and members of the Mission and Excelsior communities. They should be adept at working in a fast-paced environment with students of color and thinking fast on their feet. In their role, the Teens Program Leader will work from the Mission YMCA branch and lead participants on off-site field trips every 3rd Saturday of the month.
Minimum Qualifications
- 21 years or older
- High school diploma or equivalent
- A commitment to providing young people with the highest-quality youth development experience
- 2+ years’ experience working with multi-ethnic, multi-cultural high school-aged youth
- Strong understanding of the theory and practice of youth development
- Experience teaching specific content area(s)
- Ability to engage with high school youth and build meaningful relationships with them
- Creativity and interest in planning hands-on projects for teens
- Team player with proven ability to work with people from a variety of different ethnic, socio economic, educational, religious, sexual, and generational backgrounds
- YMCA approved CPR and First Aid certification (can complete upon hire)
- Fingerprint background check clearance
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or higher in Child & Adolescent Development or related field
- Bi-Lingual skills in Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, or Tagalog
- Knowledge of Arts, Dance, Drama, or Sports enrichments
- Passion for social justice and knowledge of the Mission and/or Excelsior communities
