About the Job

Under the direction of the Director of Teen Programs, the CARE Program Director is responsible for the development and implementation of the Buchanan YMCA Center for Academic Re-Entry and Empowerment Program. The Program Director will work closely with our partnering San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) Teachers, Counselors, and Administrators. The collaboration between the YMCA and SFUSD will focus on meeting the needs of youth by creating and supporting individual action plans towards graduation. 

The Program Director will have direct oversight and supervision of all aspects of the program, staff, and community partner and funder relationships. The Program Director will have direct contact with SFUSD, the Department of Children Youth and their Families (DCYF), the Mayor's Office of Criminal Justice (MOCJ), Juvenile Probation Department (JPD), San Francisco Police Department (SFPD), and all other CARE partners.

This position is responsible for program finances, gathering and reporting program data, and all other program administration needs. The Program Director position requires excellent communication and organizational skills. This position will supervise staff and empower high school-aged youth. The Program Director must have a strong knowledge of San Francisco, specifically the Western Addition/Fillmore community, and the barriers young people have concerning academic success and personal development. This position requires the skills to respond and resolve youth and staff conflicts with a restorative justice lens.

This position requires an understanding of the YMCA movement and will engage with cohorts and additional working groups to help advance the Y's Mission. The Program Director will participate on the Buchanan YMCA Management Team and will fulfill all duties required from this team. They will work to create and implement short- and long-term plans for the CARE Program and the Buchanan YMCA. This position will focus on the branch and program development through fundraising and grant writing. It is imperative for the Program Director to excel in communication, relationship building, and program promotion. When needed, they will attend Buchanan YMCA board meetings and any additional duties as requested by their supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

Required                                           

  • Minimum 21 years of age
  • BA/BS preferred. Or, 6+ years working with opportunity youth
  • Grant  writing, group work, and strategic planning skills 
  • Must be available program hours, nights and weekends for events or conferences
  • Previous experience with supervision, administration, and community collaboration
  • Bilingual skills Spanish and/or Cantonese preferred.
  • YMCA approved CPR and FA certification
  • Health screening and TB Clearance
