About the Job

In collaboration with DCYF, the Embarcadero and Treasure Island YMCA strives to support the DCYF Comprehensive Year-Round and Summer Learning (OST) Strategy. The Comprehensive Year-Round and Summer Learning Strategy is designed to ensure that there is continuous support and programming for children and youth outside of school hours throughout the school year and summer. Comprehensive Year- Round and Summer Learning provides skill building, physical activity, enrichment and grade specific transitions supports to participants during the school year and summer. The primary focus targets youth in elementary, middle school aged youth. 

Under the supervision of the Director of Treasure Island and Youth Programs, the Out of School Time Coordinator  is responsible for helping to develop, implement a high quality program that benefits the community of Treasure Island by providing a safe, structured place for youth while their parents work; learning opportunities that complement and reinforce the lessons of the school day; enrichment opportunities to help youth explore the work around them; and physical fitness and recreational activities to keep youth healthy and build healthy habits.

The OST Coordinator is responsible for building positive relationship with all program participants and their families, as well as the members of the community. Our goal is to foster a community environment among the community to help them develop a feeling of belonging through positive play environments. The OST Coordinator must strive to meet the expectations of a high functioning program and embodies and exudes the four YMCA core values and follow all youth development practice and principles. Coordinators are positive role models to youth & teens within the philosophy of the YMCA standards and expectations with emphasis on Character Counts. Coordinators must have the physical, visual and auditory ability to perform the essential functions of the job and to respond to all emergencies with or without reasonable accommodations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum 21 years old
  • Must have two years of experience working or volunteering with youth in an organized setting.
  • Must have background in sports related activities. 
  • Must have at least 1 year of supervision experience
  • This position requires the Coordinator to be available Monday-Friday between the hours of 11:30 am – 8:00 pm (schedule will vary each day) ; 30-32 hours per week during both the school year and summer; this position requires some weekends
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish or Chinese preferred
  • Current CPR and 1st Aid Certification, Child Abuse Prevention training ,TB Test clearance,​
