About the Job
Under the supervision of the Senior Director of Healthy Living, the Group Exercise Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the full range of classes at the Marin YMCA, and assists with hiring, training, developing, and evaluating staff. At the Y, the Cause-Driven Leader is the ambassador of Y culture and a role model of our service and engagement principles. Our Group Ex Instructors are responsible for demonstrating the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility while delivering impactful wellness services to participants. To that end, the Group Exercise Coordinator develops and regularly evaluates programming and membership satisfaction, implementing program changes in response to feedback. The Group Exercise Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that classes promote the well-being and protect the safety of all participants, including in direct service as a regular substitute instructor.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Two years of experience as a group exercise instructor or in related field.
- Ability and willingness to teach group exercise in at least one modality.
- Work schedule is based on programming; may be required to provide coverage on any shift.
- Weekly scheduled hours: 20 hours of administrative work (rate 1), 10 hours of group exercise instruction (rate 2), and the possibility of additional group ex hours.
- Strong program planning, team building, group facilitation and leadership skills.
- Excellent customer service, interpersonal skills, and verbal and written communication.
- Proficiency with Outlook, Excel, Word.
- YMCA approved CPR/AED/First Aid certification required prior to start.
- Complete relevant Y-USA Learning and Career Development Center (LCDC) e-learnings within 30 days of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
- Previous supervisory experience.
- Experience with budgeting, monitoring of program data and report writing.
- National certifications in Group Exercise.
