About the Job

Urban Services YMCA is seeking a Mandarin Tutor for the After School Program at Starr King Elementary.

The Mandarin Tutor will work directly with youth to provide academic support and instruction in reading, word recognition, and literacy skill building. The Mandarin Tutor will assist in curriculum development, coordinate tutoring schedules with the after-school program, and plan and implement Mandarin focused enrichments. The Mandarin Tutor will work to implement a culture of learning and understanding among all students.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 18 years or older
  • At least 2 years of college (48 units), AA degree, or passing score on After School For All – ExCel Qualification Exam (NCLB)
  • Must be able to assist students with homework, quizzes, and other academic related tasks
  • Must be able to create fun and engaging enrichment plans for students to learn Mandarin and Chinese culture
  • Must have fluency in Mandarin; writing simplified characters and pinyin; reading and verbal fluency
  • Current YMCA approved CPR and First Aid certification (may complete upon hire)
  • Fingerprint background check clearance
  • TB Test clearance
  • Proof of COVID Vaccination is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in Education and Language Arts
  • Teaching Credential
  • Demonstrate knowledge, familiarity, and experience working in or with schools within SFUSD
