About the Job

The Beacon Director is a manager who is highly skilled at relationship building, program management, process and performance coordination, communication, and both staff and youth development. The Beacon Director will ensure that the Beacon Center programs are well designed, fully developed, and implemented in accordance with its mission. The Director will hire and supervise the core staff as well as lead the staff in developing programs in coordination with agencies, organizations, and the school community. The Director will ensure the community’s needs are documented so that the program will provide as wide a range of services as possible. The Beacon Director will coordinate development of a facility that is welcoming, safe, and is a healthy environment for community program development. The Beacon Director will co-lead the community school effort with the principal, using the SFUSD Community School Framework and the Beacon Model.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 21+ Years old
  • Bachelor’s degree plus 3 years or more of related work experience
  • Must be available before, during, and after school days, some evenings and weekends
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with the best practices in youth development program planning, curriculum development, methods of teaching, and evaluation
  • Previous experience with budgets, contracts, and MOUs
  • Have strong understanding of the nature of the achievement gap in San Francisco
  • Proven ability to work with people from diverse ethnic, socioeconomic, educational, religious, sexual orientation backgrounds
  • Familiarity and experience working in or with schools and with community-based organizations
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience working in communities of color with low-income populations
  • Fingerprint background check clearance
  • TB test clearance mandatory prior to hire
  • YMCA approved CPR/AED/First Aid Certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in education, administration, social services, or related field, plus a minimum of 1 year of program administration
  • Bilingual skills in Spanish or Chinese
  • Knowledge/implementation of community school framework
