About the Job

The ASP Lead Teacher is part of a team providing a safe, nurturing and educational environment for all youth enrolled in the afterschool program at the Richmond District YMCA. The Lead Teacher will actively plan, implement and participate in engaging and developmentally appropriate enrichment curriculum. They will be expected to manage facilitation of daily activities with support from teachers and teachers’ aides. The Lead Teacher is responsible for building and maintaining positive relationships with families being served at the Richmond District YMCA. The Lead Teacher must have a positive attitude and model appropriate behavior when interacting with children, families and staff. The Lead Teacher assumes responsibility for the site during the Site Coordinator’s absence or instance in which the Site Coordinator is otherwise occupied. The Lead Teacher must also comply with and enforces all regulations set forth by Community Care Licensing, as well as instructions given by the Site Supervisor. The Lead Teacher must be available to work during program hours of 1 pm to 6 pm, Monday through Friday, consistently, as well as 2-3 flexible hours per week to support with administrative responsibilities. Additionally, the Lead Teacher will be responsible for supporting family community-building initiatives within the school community.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of 18 years of age required. 21 preferred.
  • Minimum 12 units related to ECE/Education, Child Development. Preferred Bachelors Degree with teaching credential.
  • Availability: Mondays-Fridays between hours of 11am and 6pm
  • Experience facilitating enrichment programming for school age youth
  • Preferred bilingual in Mandarin or Cantonese.
  • Licenses & Certifications: Current CPR and First Aid Certification (can obtain upon hire), finger print and TB test clearance
