Youth Basketball Coach – Presidio Community

Position Summary

The YMCA Presidio Branch is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Youth Basketball Coach to lead and inspire young athletes during the upcoming basketball season. The ideal candidate will create a safe, structured, and engaging environment where youth can develop their basketball skills, build confidence, and foster a love for the game.

In this role, you will work closely with players and their families to ensure a positive experience, emphasizing sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal growth. Coaches are responsible for planning and leading practices, managing games, and maintaining clear communication with parents and guardians. Additionally, coaches may be called upon to serve as referees on game days if there is a shortage, ensuring games can proceed and our youth do not face cancellations.

This part-time position is perfect for someone passionate about basketball and committed to making a difference in the lives of young athletes as a Youth Basketball Coach.

Job Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver basketball practices that focus on skill development, teamwork, and fun.Foster a positive and inclusive environment for all players.
• Ensure safety protocols and program guidelines are followed during all activities.
• Encourage sportsmanship and model positive behavior for youth participants.Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding schedules, expectations, and player progress.
• Monitor and maintain equipment and facilities to ensure a safe playing environment.
• Serve as a referee on game days if necessary to prevent game cancellations and ensure a positive experience for youth participants.

Youth Basketball Coach Qualifications

• Minimum 18 years of age
• Highly motivated to provide quality youth sports experiences
• Be a team player
• Current YMCA approved CPR and 1^st Aid certification (can complete upon hire)
• Fingerprint background check clearance
• TB Test clearance
• Must be willing to participate in evaluations and supervision meetings as needed
• Knowledge of basketball rules, strategies, and techniques needed to be a successful Youth Basketball Coach.
• Experience coaching, teaching, or working with youth in a recreational or competitive setting.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to create a fun, structured, and safe environment for players of all skill levels.
• Availability to work evenings and weekends during the basketball season.

Youth Basketball Season Schedule

• Season starts December 15th 2024 and ends March 15th 2025
• The Youth Basketball Coach role will require an average of 5 hours per week of training and prep work during the month of December.
