Position Summary
The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the organization’s financial operations with a focus on fixed asset accounting, general ledger maintenance, and related accounting functions. This position helps ensure accurate financial reporting, compliance with accounting standards, and effective internal controls.

Job Responsibilities
Fixed Assets Management
- Maintain fixed asset records using NetSuite, including tracking of property, plant, and equipment
- Record asset acquisitions, transfers, disposals, and impairments
- Ensure fixed asset accounting aligns with organizational capitalization policies
- Prepare asset roll-forward schedules and audit documentation
- Record asset retirement obligations and related journal entries
General Ledger Functions
- Prepare and post journal entries to various accounts
- Reconcile balance sheet and income statement accounts
- Maintain the chart of accounts and verify accurate account coding
- Assist with monthly and year-end close processes
- Generate trial balances and supporting schedules
- Investigate and explain account variances and unusual activity
General Accounting Responsibilities
- Support accounts payable processing as needed
- Provide documentation for financial reporting and audits
- Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Organize and maintain accounting records and files
- Assist with compliance reporting related to property, city, and county taxes
Reporting and Additional Functions
- Prepare internal management reports as requested by the Controller
- Assist with process improvements and accounting system enhancements
- Collaborate with cross-departmental teams to resolve accounting-related issues
- Adhere to internal controls and organizational policies
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Proficiency in accounting systems and Microsoft Office Suite; advanced Excel skills including financial formulas and pivot tables
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with team members and other departments
- Foundational analytical skills for identifying and resolving discrepancies in financial data
- Experience with general ledger maintenance and month-end closing processes functions
- Experience with balance sheet account reconciliation
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in fixed asset accounting, general ledger functions, and month-end close is preferred
- 2-5 years of accounting experience preferred, including exposure to fixed asset accounting
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- This position typically operates in an office environment. The role involves frequent use of standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. The work setting is generally quiet with occasional interactions and meetings in a shared or open-office environment. Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods while working at a computer. Occasionally moves files, documents, or supplies weighing up to 15 pounds. Regularly operates a computer and other office productivity equipment.
