Position Summary

The Workforce Intern program is a five-month internship designed for recently graduated high school students, transitioning from a structured spring workshop series to hands-on summer work experience. During the spring semester, interns will participate in an eight-week series covering professionalism, leadership, team building, program design, youth mentorship, public speaking, and CPR/First Aid. In the summer, interns will be placed at a partner site of their choice, where they will work 20 hours per week and complete assigned tasks. At the conclusion of the program, interns will deliver a presentation summarizing their experiences and key takeaways. 

Internship Duration: 5 months (Spring and Summer Sessions) 
Location: Various Sites 

Job Responsibilities

  • Professionalism and Conduct 
    • Maintain a professional appearance and attitude at all times when interacting with peers and supervisors. 
    • Follow all Youth Development Staff YMCA policies and in-house practices. 
    • Attend all program days, trainings, and workshops, ensuring 100% attendance and full participation. 
  • Training and Development 
    • Complete all required training and re-certifications in a timely manner. 
    • Participate in program projects and activities, applying learned skills to contribute effectively. 
  • Program Engagement 
    • Promote the Y’s PACE programming and familiarize yourself with the services offered to members. 
    • Engage in Partner sites roles and responsibilities. 
  • Site Attendance 
    • Report to Bayview YMCA location on Fridays for workshops. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be at least 17 years old. 
  • Availability: Monday to Friday, 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM. 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. 
  • Ability to work effectively with members, staff, and volunteers. 
  • Clearance through background check and fingerprinting. 
  • TB Test clearance within last 2 years. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduating Senior, Class of 2025. 
  • Bilingual in Cantonese, Mandarin, or Spanish. 
  • Previous experience participating in teams or group activities with other youth. 

Work Environment and Physical Demands

The work environment is primarily based in a youth-oriented, team-driven setting, where interns interact with staff, members, and volunteers. Interns will work in both office and outdoor spaces, with occasional movement between different program sites. Physical demands include standing, sitting, and walking for extended periods, as well as occasional lifting of items up to 25 lbs. Interns should be able to handle a variety of tasks that require attention to detail and effective communication.

Salary Description

The position offers a competitive hourly rate of $20.25 per hour, aligned with salary and hourly benchmarking standards for similar roles. This compensation is consistent with funding allocated through grant approval and adheres to the established salary structure for the position.
