Position Summary
Under the guidance of the Program Director, the Health Supervisor ensures the health and safety of all camp participants by managing medical care, administering medications, and maintaining accurate health records. This position ensures compliance with California state regulations for organized camps and American Camp Association (ACA) standards for camper health. By promoting a safe and supportive environment, the Health Supervisor collaborates with the Program Director to uphold health and safety protocols and enhance the overall camp experience.
Job Responsibilities
Health & Medical Care
- Administer camper medications and provide medical care, including first aid, as needed.
- Maintain accurate and organized health records, including incident reports and health logs.
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations, including YMCA, ACA, and California state standards.
- Uphold and enforce camp health, hygiene, and safety protocols to promote camper well-being.
- Provide guidance to campers on understanding and following camp health and safety policies.
Camper Support & Program Engagement
- Provide excellent customer service to campers, parents, and staff by addressing health-related concerns with empathy and professionalism.
- Support the camp program by fostering positive connections among participants and with the YMCA community.
- Supervise and manage the cleanliness and organization of camper living areas, promoting respect for personal property, camp facilities, and the environment.
Professionalism & Administrative Responsibilities
- Serve as a role model by projecting a professional image through behavior, appearance, and communication.
- Actively participate in required staff meetings, training sessions, and mandatory e-learning modules.
- Submit timely and accurate reports, including health logs, incident reports, and timecards.
Qualifications
- Must be 21 years or older.
- Completion of a minimum of 15 hours of health and safety training, including:
- Pediatric First Aid
- Pediatric CPR
- Preventative health practices, including recognizing, managing, and preventing infectious diseases, immunizations, and injury prevention.
- Strong ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, ages, and experiences.
- Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, including active listening and accountability.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
The Health Supervisor role at Camp Jones Gulch involves working indoors and outdoors in a camp environment. Responsibilities require standing, walking, and moving frequently across uneven terrain to respond to health or safety incidents. The position also demands the ability to provide medical care, perform first aid (including bending, kneeling, and reaching), communicate effectively in noisy settings, and handle high-stress situations calmly. The Health Supervisor must be flexible with scheduling to meet the health and safety needs of camp participants. Meals and accommodations are provided for the program’s duration.
