The Community Services Coordinator oversees the daily operations of the Chinatown YMCA’s Immigrant Support Center and supports the Community Services Director in providing services to new immigrants, SRO residents, and low-income families. This role includes organizing monthly informational workshops, regular support groups, community events, and outings, as well as conducting regular check-ins with participants and clients. Key responsibilities involve connecting clients with appropriate resources, ensuring adherence to grant requirements, and overseeing program evaluations to measure participant satisfaction. Based on feedback, the coordinator will implement improvements to better address community needs.
In addition, the Community Services Coordinator serves as an advocate and resource for low-income families, SRO residents, and the broader community. As a member of the Chinatown YMCA’s full-time team, the coordinator also participates in the Annual Giving Campaign, branch events, and community outreach activities to promote and advance the YMCA’s mission.
Job Responsibilities
- Supervise Community Program staff and volunteers, ensuring alignment with program goals and YMCA standards.
- Build and maintain meaningful relationships with members, guests, and staff to foster a welcoming environment.
- Recruit, onboard, and oversee staff and volunteers, providing guidance and support.
- Promote positive participant engagement and involvement through effective communication and interaction.
- Plan and implement ongoing events for service connection clients and community program participants.
- Host drop-in hours, meet with clients, and stay informed about local services and resources to support branch service connection efforts.
- Connect community members with appropriate Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) based on their needs.
- Organize and facilitate monthly community workshops.
- Address family concerns promptly and courteously.
- Hold regular planning meetings with Community Program staff to coordinate efforts and ensure consistency.
- Ensure compliance with grant guidelines and manage related requirements effectively.
- Support timely fiscal management, including salaries, program expenses, statements of activities, and journal entries.
- Collaborate with community members and YMCA Program staff to: a. Align activities with the needs of low-income and SRO families. b. Conduct assessments and surveys to gather feedback. c. Implement and utilize evaluation tools for continuous improvement.
- Serve as a dependable, empathetic, and effective leader within the team.
- Partner with Community-Based Organizations for outreach events, sharing services and resources to uplift community members.
- Adhere to YMCA policies regarding safety, supervision, mandated reporting, and risk management.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years old
- High school diploma or AA degree or equivalent
- Availability required on weekdays during program hours
- At least 2 years of experience working with youth and families.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and communicating effectively in Chinese (Cantonese or Mandarin) and English
- Strong skills in leadership development, planning, communication, and staff supervision.
- Must be self-motivated, proactive, dependable, and highly organized.
- Ability to multitask and effectively resolve conflicts in a timely manner.
Preferred Qualifications (Optional)
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent qualification.
- Prior supervisory experience
- Experience working with the Chinatown YMCA or the greater YMCA of San Francisco communities.
