Position Summary 

The Tailor Made Violence Interrupter (VI) is a key role within the Urban Services YMCA program, focused on supporting youth in their transition to healthy adulthood. This position provides case management, mentorship, enrichment activities, referrals, and other social services to youth and their families in San Francisco. The Violence Interrupter will monitor students’ academic progress, attendance, and case plan goals, advocating for necessary services and resources. They will connect students to community and city/county services, maintaining detailed records of case notes, services provided, and progress toward goals. The Tailor Made Violence Interrupter will work with SFUSD middle and high school students, providing support before, during, and after school, addressing issues throughout the district. 
 

Job Responsibilities 

Case Management & Client Support 

  • Manage a caseload of 20-25 individuals, providing one-on-one and group sessions as required. 
  • Conduct intakes, assessments, and case planning for at-risk youth (ages 11-18) while ensuring YMCA program standards and safety protocols are followed. 
  • Help participants set short- and long-term goals, connecting them to additional services as needed. 
  • Maintain accurate client case files, including demographic, academic, attendance data, and case notes. 
  • Keep accurate records of participant demographics and statistics. 
  • Provide youth and families with community resources and information. 

Community Engagement & Outreach 

  • Promote community involvement, civic engagement, and parental participation in youth programs. 
  • Conduct outreach, attending community meetings to increase awareness of YMCA services. 
  • Build and maintain partnerships with YMCA collaborators, local businesses, employment agencies, and community organizations. 

Program Development & Support 

  • Lead or facilitate information and support groups as needed. 

Professional Development & Meetings 

  • Attend required staff meetings, training, and case conferences to support professional growth and program goals. 

Qualifications 

  • Must be at least 21 years of age. 
  • AA degree or equivalent work experience. 
  • Availability Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. 
  • 2 or more years of experience in social work, sociology, youth development, psychology, or related fields. 
  • Knowledge of case management best practices and principles. 
  • Familiarity with SFUSD and the San Francisco community, particularly in low-income areas. 
  • Ability to multitask, work independently, and meet program outcomes and deadlines. 
  • Proven ability to work with diverse populations, especially high-risk youth, from various cultural, socioeconomic, educational, and personal backgrounds. 
  • Ability to implement youth development practices in program development and continually assess programs to ensure alignment with organizational goals. 
  • Proficient in computer use, including Windows, Word, Excel, databases, internet, and social media. 
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including conflict mediation. Must maintain a professional demeanor with a positive and approachable attitude. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience. 
  • 3-5 years of experience in social work, case management, youth development, or trauma-informed practices. 

Work Environment & Physical Demands 

The work environment is primarily based in schools and community settings, with a mix of office and fieldwork. The position requires frequent interaction with youth, families, and community members, and the ability to work in diverse, sometimes challenging environments. The role may involve occasional standing, walking, and lifting up to 25 pounds. Flexibility is required to adapt to various settings and situations, with occasional evening or weekend hours depending on program needs.

Salary Description 

The hourly wage for this position is between $25 and $29 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications. This salary range is based on industry standards, salary benchmarking, and is aligned with the approval of grant funds designated for this role.
