Position Summary

The Associate Executive Director (AED) will work in partnership with the Senior Executive Director to lead and manage operations for Youth & Community Programs and Healthy Living initiatives at the Embarcadero, Shih Yu Lang Central and Treasure Island branches/locations. This includes oversight of a diverse range of programs such as youth development (family programs, after-school programs, camps, teen leadership), community health initiatives, membership, group exercise, wellness programs, and outreach.  The AED will supervise staff, volunteers, and program directors to ensure high-quality service delivery and foster a positive impact on the community. Additionally, this role supports the branch board, leads a board committee, and contributes to association-wide leadership teams.

Responsibilities include staff supervision, community engagement, volunteer relations, fiscal management, marketing, program development, grant oversight, facility management, and fostering continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee youth development, healthy living, and community programs to ensure they meet organizational goals and community needs.
  • Ensure the branch operates efficiently, safely, and effectively, maintaining a welcoming environment for all members and participants.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to staff and volunteers, fostering a culture of inclusion, collaboration, and professional growth.
  • Support team development through coaching, training, and mentoring.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Executive Director to develop and manage the branch’s budget and strategic plan.
  • Drive financial sustainability through effective budget oversight, program revenue, and fundraising efforts.
  • Build relationships with community stakeholders to strengthen the YMCA’s presence and impact.
  • Work with the branch board and lead a designated board committee to support organizational objectives.
  • Drive operational improvements and innovation to enhance program delivery and member experience.
  • Identify opportunities to better serve the community and adapt programs to emerging needs.
  • Lead community fundraising initiatives in partnership with staff, volunteers, and board members.
  • Promote a culture of philanthropy by engaging stakeholders in supporting the YMCA’s mission.
  • Represent the branch in association-wide working groups and initiatives.
  • Foster collaboration with other YMCA branches and external partners to expand the reach and impact of programs.
  • Ensure programs and operations align with the YMCA’s mission and strategic priorities.
  • Uphold organizational policies and maintain compliance with safety, risk management, and reporting standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in community or nonprofit leadership
  • At least 5 years of experience in youth programming or a related field
  • 5+ years in a supervisory role
  • Experience with budget and grant management
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite and basic digital tools
  • YMCA approved CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications

Preferred

  • Experience with Salesforce or similar systems
  • Fluency in additional languages such as Cantonese, Mandarin, or Spanish
  • Familiarity with California state licensing requirements and after-school programming
  • YMCA leadership certifications (e.g., Multi-Team Leader Certification)
